    Labetalol is used for acute ischemic stroke treatment to lower blood pressure below 185/110 mm Hg prior to alteplase administration, and below 180/105 mm Hg for the first 24 hours after treatment. It is given as a 10-20 mg IV dose over 1-2 minutes, and can be repeated once, followed by a continuous infusion of 2-8 mg/min if needed to control blood pressure. The patient should remain supine during and for up to 3 hours following injection.
