The Conflict
Israel and Hamas started a war in October 2023, with Hamas hitting Israel and inflicting
losses. The Israeli cabinet ordered the IDF to impose a "complete siege" on Gaza and
declared war on Hamas. With regular rocket fire and demands to evacuate more than a
million Palestinian people, the war has intensified. Due to an Israeli assistance blockade,
Gaza is running out of water, fuel, and supplies, and the conflict is at risk of escalating into
cross-border attacks in Lebanon and Syria.
Middle East Corridor
Two great Mediterranean powers—Greece and Turkey—are at odds over a corridor that
would, in the 21st century, connect Alexander's Greece with Porus' India thousands of
miles away. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by the European Union
and seven nations—India, the US, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), France,
Germany, and Italy—on the eve of the G20 summit in New Delhi, establishing the
India-Middle East-Europe-Economic Corridor (IMEC).
