Unit 2: French in North America

This unit again focuses on historical elements of Canadian history. This unit certainly continues on building students' knowledge of the
historical background of Canada’s founding peoples (Indigenous, French, and British). This unit covers a lot of ground from explorers,
notable officials, cities, religious organization, and government structure. Due to the limited time frame of the unit, it is imperative that
I ensure that we focus on learning the necessary information to keep on track for the year. Overall, this unit provides some excellent
opportunities for students to examine primary source documents (especially religious journals from French Jesuits) as well as to
examine the hierarchical structure of French government in early Canadian history. I think Unit 2 and 3 provides some great
opportunities to do some small group, particularly when studying the explorers of Canada, and also to learn about past peoples, places,
and events in Canadian history.
