Transport Specification - Drive train - 2008756EN

Delta4000 Rev. 3 / 2021-06-01

1 General
Correct load securing in accordance with international regulations prevents an immediate risk of
accident due to missing or improperly installed safety devices.

In addition to averting economic and business damage, it is particularly important to avoid the
risk of personal injury.

The transport specification are not an expert report. Before each sea/road transport, the
responsible carrier must carry out a sufficient cargo securing calculation and order/amount of
securing means and load distribution must be adjusted accordingly.

1.1 Purpose
This transport specification describes the handling and the cargo securing requirements for
transporting the drive train used for Delta4000 wind turbines.

1.2 Target group

This document and the handling instructions contained therein apply to all Nordex Group plants
and loading and transhipment yards as well as to forwarding agents and freight forwarders who
carry out transport orders for Nordex Group and its subsidiaries.

2 Safety
• Safety regulation E0004553222, Delta4000 safety manual

• Operating instructions E0004553035 Delta4000 operating instructions

These documents contain all important general instructions, information and notes that are
required for safe and risk-free work on the WT.

 Before starting any work, a responsible person must instruct all persons involved in the
safety regulations mentioned in the documents.
 Make sure that the responsible person enforces compliance with the safety regulations.

Safety notes for crane operations

General

The regulations for crane work may be different from one country to another. The person in
charge of the lifting operation must be familiar with the country-specific regulations before
starting the work, and informs subordinate employees about these regulations in writing.

There must be a person who knows these regulations and is available as a contact, during the
entire lifting operation.

Regulations on lifting of components

Only suitable, approved and certified lifting tackles with sufficient load capacity is used to hoist
components.

Cranes with a lifting capacity and outreach appropriate to the load weight and stowage position
must be used. When loading with shore-side cranes, care must be taken to ensure that the load
and cranes are positioned close enough and that the ground is level and can withstand the
resulting surface load/pressure. If necessary, the subfloor must be prepared with steel plates or
crane mats laid under the crane support legs.

Rev. 3 /2021-06-01 Delta4000

If the weight of the drive train exceeds the permissible load limit of one crane in single-crane
operation, this may cause material damage.

 Use a crane with sufficient capacity

 Use a crossbeam and hoist the drive train using two cranes
 Two cranes must be synchronized by electronic synchronization system to the drive
train’s vertical lifting movement.
No one must stand or walk under the suspended load. All individuals maintain adequate safety
distance from suspended loads to prevent injuries from falling objects.

Weather conditions

During thunderstorms, all crane work must be stopped due to a risk of lightning striking the
crane or a component. Consult the crane operator to determine the maximum wind speed at
which crane work is possible. The limit wind speed for crane work depends on the type of crane,
the design of the crane and the wind conditions.

The crane operator is fully responsible during all crane work. The responsible employee and the
crane operator mutually agree when crane work must be stopped due to the wind conditions and
when they can be resumed.

5 Cargo handling
The stowage/cargo plan must be used to check whether the cargo can be fitted in the intended
position and whether the cranes can reach this position without touching other objects. Care
must be taken to ensure that the required distances between the load and other objects meet
the required safety distances.

5.2 Important information

Before you start with the lifting operation, consider that:

• The round slings have different lengths

• The label indicates the attachment point where the respective round sling must be attached

• The protection sleeve with Velcro fastener has to be used as a protection for the sling
inside the shackle

5.3 Loading/unloading the drive train

Lifting the rotor drive train

DANGER
Suspended load

The drive train may fall or pass into uncontrolled pendular movement. This could
result in serious injury and death.

 Fence off the required area.

 Maintain safety distances.
 Do not walk or stand underneath suspended loads.
 Use guide ropes to control the cargo.

NOTICE
Material damage

When lifted or put down, contact between the drive train and other cargo or the
vessel's walls may cause material damage.
 Use fenders or "lollipops".

1 Lift the drive train slowly until it hangs freely.

2 If the drive train does not hangs horizontally, check that the lifting tackle is correctly
attached and change it accordingly.

3 Lift the drive train smoothly and move it to the desired location.

6.1 General considerations

• The bed minimum width must be 2,500 mm.

• The lashing elements must not touch/damage the component at any time.

• The minimum lower surface of the transport frame that must be in contact with the truck
surface is indicated in red below. It is forbidden to rest on the longitudinal beams (in
green):

Figure 11: Minimum contact surfaces

1. Minimum contact surfaces 2. Resting on longitudinal beams is forbidden

• Anti-slip mats (minimum coefficient of friction: 0.6) must be placed between the transport
frame and the truck bed in the contact surfaces. The anti-slip mats must be of a quality
and design that ensures that they do not lose their properties during the entire journey.

6.3 Maximum accelerations

The transport frame of the component is designed for the transport on sea and road. They are
calculated according to EN 12195-1 and IMO CSS Code.

The maximum accelerations the frame and component are allowed to experience during road
transport are:

ax = +0.5g
ax = -0.8g
ay = ±0.5g
az = -1.0g

• Drawing K0820_066971 Stopper plate transport frame

7.1 Requirements
• The transported components must never touch the vessel surface directly.

• The lashing elements must not touch/damage the component at any time.

• The drive train cannot be transported on deck; so underdeck shipment is totally

compulsory.

• The surface of the transport frame that must be in contact with the vessel surface is
indicated in red below. It is forbidden to rest on the longitudinal beams (in green):

7.2 Drive train’s position on the vessel

The drive train can position on the vessel in the longitudinal and transversal direction related to
transport direction:

Figure 19: Drive train's position on the vessel

7.3 Maximum accelerations

The transport frames of the component are designed for the transport on sea and road. They
are calculated according to EN 12195-1 and IMO CSS Code.

The maximum accelerations the frame and component are allowed to experience during sea
transport are:

ax = ± 2.0 m/s2
ay = ± 6.2 m/s2
az = ± 9.2 m/s2

Figure 20: Maximum accelerations allowed during sea transport

7.4 Inland waterway

The DNVGL-ST-N001 rules for inland and sheltered water voyages recommend to lash for a 0.1g
(or 1/10 of the weight) in longitudinal and transversal directions.

Using only anti-slip mats, is not sufficient to prevent the impact of a possible collision of the
barge with a lock.

In addition to the anti-slip mats, Nordex therefore also requires the fitting of a total of at least
2 chains against longitudinal and transverse acceleration.

The arrangement of the chains is shown in the previous pictures.
