CONDITIONAL FORMATTING MICROSOFT EXCEL

Conditional formatting is a function which makes it easier for us to read a data that is
poured in a table. Make it easy for us reading data, here interpreted in giving something different
from the data others in a table. It can be a color or giving a special icon.

Try to type the data below:

Bima 67
Albi 45
Albi 89
Bilqis 90
Neyra 76
Alfan 88

Then practice the methods below:

1. Conditional formatting (text that contain)


Gives a color effect to the target text. The method :
a. Selection of names - the names to be selected
b. Select the style button > Conditional formatting > select Hightlight Cells Ruler > select
Text that contains
c. The Text that Contain dialog will appear > fill in the name that has been selected.
Example:
Bilqis > OK
d. Then the result is that the cell with the name Rendy will change color to red.

*The red color of the cells and the color of the letters can be changed using custom

format like the image below:

2. Conditional formatting (greater than)


Displays all cells that have more than the specified number.
a. Select the number to be selected
b. Select the style button > Conditional formatting > select Highlight Cells Ruler > select
Greater Than
c. A dialog box will appear > write the number you want
d. Select the desired color > OK

3. Conditional formatting (above average/ above average)


Displays all cells that have values above the average of all series cell.
a. Select the number to be selected
b. Select the style button > Conditional formatting > select Top/Bottom Rules > select
Above Average > OK
c. Then all cells whose values are above the average will be red (choice color)

4. Conditional formatting (data bars)


Displays a bar graph in each cell of the appropriate length with that value when compared to
all other cells.
a. Select the number to be selected
b. Select the style button > Conditional formatting > select Data Bars > select a color chill >
OK
c. It will display the cell with the lowest value having the most graphics short and vice
versa.

5. Conditional formatting Color Scales


The cell will be displayed in color scale. The larger the cell value, the darker the color the
cell.
a. Select the number to be selected
b. Select the style button > Conditional formatting > select Color Scales > select desired
color > OK
c. then the color in the cell will follow the value in the cell. The bigger the value the darker
the cell color.

6. Conditional Formatting Icon Sets


A graph will be displayed in the cell that is greater or smaller in the cell compared to the
average value.
a. Select the number to be selected
b. Select the style button > Conditional formatting > select Icon Sets > select a color chill >
OK
c. It will show the values that are in the average range displayed in yellow. Values far
below average by color red and values far from the average are shown in green.
