Planetary Retrogression

Other than the astronomical facts, what does it mean?

How can I decipher what a retrograde planet will mean in a chart?

There is so much talk about Mercury Retrograde; people always focus on

saying that your computer will not work and not to sign contracts during this time
period. Even though, this does have merit, what you need to know is that ANY
retrograde planet’s ‘meanings’ are STRONGER while the planet is retrograde.

For example, if a person was born with a retrograde Venus, that individual will
not think like everybody else when it comes to relationship matters. The person
will have a ‘unique’ view versus what is commonly thought of as ‘the
norm’ (normal).

Another example: when Mercury is retrograde (in transit - not in a person’s

chart), most folks will pay attention more to details; their way of thinking will
‘slow down’ to the point where they will be more ‘discerning’ with their decisions.
Some might view this as ‘impeding’, yet it gives the individual a chance to ‘mull
over’ all the factors. If you have an ephemeris, note when Mercury turns
retrograde and you will see that you will ‘go over’ ideas twice in your head.

When Saturn is retrograde, individuals will pay attention more to the

responsibilities in their life, to the areas that require more discipline, to the ‘long
term’ goals they have. Saturn is about how persistent you can be in life matters.

Here is an example chart of another way to look at “Retrogression”. In Western
Astrology, retrogression is looked at as a “negative” state, yet, in Vedic
Astrology, retrogression is a “positive” state. The term “vakra” in Sanskrit is
retrogression and “avastha” is the state or condition of the planet.
