BIOGRAPHY SULTAN MAHMUD BADARUDDIN II

Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II was the leader of Palembang Darussalam Sultanate during the
two periods (1803-1813, 1818-1821), after the reign of his father, Sultan Muhammad Bahauddin
(1776-1803). Since the kingdom of Palembang was appointed Sultan Muhammad Baha Sultan
succeeded his father, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin fought against the British and the Dutch.

In his reign, he led several battles against the British and Dutch, among the so-called War of
Menteng. When Batavia successfully occupied in 1811, Sultan Mahmud Palembang actually
managed to liberate from the clutches of the Netherlands on May 14, 1811. Since the lead found
in the Pacific in the mid-18th century, the region became the target of Palembang and Britain and
the Netherlands. In order to establish a commercial contract, the Europeans intend to master
Palembang. The beginning of the European colonization was marked by the placement Loji

From Batavia sultan mahmud Badarudin II and his family were exiled to Ternate by the Dutch
and until his death 26 September 1852. Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin is one of two fighters who
fight against the British and Dutch colonists. Presidential Decree No. 063/TK/1984 awarded the
title of National Hero of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II.

His name is now immortalized as the name of the international airport in Palembang, Sultan
Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport and Currency IDR 10,000 rupiah denominations issued by the
Bank Indonesia on October 20, 2005. Using images of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II in this bill
could be a case of copyright infringement, allegedly used the image without the artist's
permission, but later revealed that this image has become the property of the face painting
competition organizers Badaruddin Sultan Mahmud II.
