Advisory
Advisory is your first class. It is like homeroom but it's a bit
different. This is where your advisor will be, in your
advisory you will do activities, like play games and talk
about important topics like how to properly treat other
people. Your advisor is a good teacher go to for some school
problem like friend drama, they will show what to do next
and help you get through it. They are also there to help you
when you are feeling down or can’t control yourself, they are
awesome! spenser
First week
On the first 2 days you have advisory for the most of
the day, but the rest of the day you will have normal
school schedule but in short blocks. For the first two
days you get 40 mins in your A day and B day
classes.
For your classes, the buildings are called Adams
and Franklin. If your class has an A its in Adams
and if it has F it’s in Franklin. For example A6-18 =
Adams 6 floor 18 or room F3-03 = Franklin 3rd
floor room 3.
The Schedule
The schedule is a rotating one. On a A1 day you might have: Math, Spanish, P.H.E
then I&S. Then on a A2 day your classes will be: Spanish, P.H.E, I&S and then Math.
You will either have a A day or a B day, in advisory at the beginning of the week we
all sit down to write down out schedule. It is okay if you get lost, you can go to a
teacher to help direct you to your next class. Good luck!
Managebac
Managebac is a platform that you will be using in your
classes to find your daily lessons and grades, it is also
useful for your teachers to upload tasks for you to do in
class .

Managebac is not just for students and teachers - it is also

for parents so they can see your grades and more.
A Managebac tutorial by Techtorial.
Different Subjects
In middle school we have all the subjects from primary school,
except I&S (individuals and societies - like social studies) and design.
However specialists classes only last for 1 semester; those are
Drama, Design, Art and Music. For every class you have a different
teacher, and a different room. MS classes have more responsibilities
but are also fun at the same time!
Sports Teams
You can join Sports team by signing up. If you are very good you might
go to some competition!
Some different sports teams to join:
● Cross Country
● Volleyball
● Golf
● Basketball
● Football
● Soccer
● Swimming
● Gymnastics
CCA’s
If you want to do things after school you should think about joining
one of our many after school activities known as CCA’s. There are a
variety of topics like technology, Minecraft, Service Club, Anime
Club, Art, Music, Acting, homework etc. Also if you like just doing
other types of cca’s ask your parents to take a look at the website and
sign up and I hope you sign up for a CCA.
Middle School Student Council
The middle school student council is where kids from grade 6 go for meetings. The role in
Middle school student council is a advisory representative, Grade 6 representative and
President . It is where you and your other advisory rep help your advisor, or help arrange
something fun for your advisory to do either on Tuesday or Thursday. On Thursdays you go
to meetings with all of the advisory reps and you will be added to a group chat, you will
also need to be responsible because this is a big responsibility.

The second Role is Grade 6 representative they will also attend the meetings and be the
host. They will also be asking you guys questions about you and your advisory and they
play a important role in the student council.

Last but not least, we have our most important role: the President! They will be at the
meetings and they will organize a lot of fun events with Mr. Ion who also hosts the
meeting. Like we said before they ask you guys questions and they will make forms if
needed and they will mostly be collecting information from you to help with problems that
you might have in school . I hope you guys might want to try and be your class’ advisory
rep or more!
Uniforms
In middle school you will still be wearing uniforms but there are some changes:

For boys the shirt with have mostly white but the sleeves are dark blue, and the shorts are
the same. For PE the uniform is the same. For girls they wear the same shirt as the boys
but instead they wear a skirt with a button at the top.

When you are in middle school you will need to bring extra uniforms for after PE (physical
education) class. Now that we are getting close to puberty 😭, meaning you will sweat
more which makes you smell and you don’t want to smell for school so you will need to
bring an extra change of your uniforms! For middle school to high school you will wear the
uniform.
Music & Drama Opportunities
There are many music and drama opportunities,
If you play an instrument or you like to sing you can sign up for either the choir or
the ensemble. Then at the end of the year you can perform in front of your
parents and friends at the Reagan Theater.
If you like to act then you can audition for the school play, there is normally two
plays per school year, one per semester. After lots of hard work you get to
perform at the Reagan Theater for your parents and friends.
Your Laptop
Yay finally laptops!!

Now that you have laptops you will need to

take care of it.

Just like with your iPad, be sure to:

● charge it every night,
● remember to put it in your bag every
morning after it charges so you can get
ready early.
● Keep your files organized!

*And also be responsible with is because

it belongs to the school!!*
Student Planners
The student planners are something that is essential in your classes. You will use your
planner to write down your classes for the day and your homework. Also it has a area
where you can write down notes .

Some of the pros of having your planner is that you write down your homework so you
later on are organized and less stressful

Some cons are that teachers check your planner a lot (but really, this is an annoying pro).
Digital Responsibility
● You are not allowed to google chat during class.

● You are not allowed to google chat in an inappropriate way.

● You also are not allowed to use phone after 8:20 a.m until the school ends.

● If you spilled water or did other things on your laptop and it’s not working, you
have to pay for it, and give the laptop back to the i.t.
MS H ouses
There are 4 houses in middle school. Just like you guys had Masai,
Congo, Katanga and Kalahari in elementary school. We have Earhart,
Gandhi, Einstein and Roosevelt. Houses are by advisory and you can
get house points by competing in holiday advisory door decorations ,
earth month and more. When you are competing you have a lot of fun!!
Extra Tips
Try and bring less things to school that you brought in elementary since it will be
heavier!

It is also a good idea to have a watch in order to make sure you get to class on
time, this also helps you with your time management after school with your
homework.
Sometimes you will see some high-schoolers on their phones, but middle school
students are NOT allowed to use their cell phones from 8:20 a.m until the
school ends.

You will also have a locker, however it will be outside the classroom, not inside.

classrooms and show what days your
classes are.

In middle school you will be introduced to a new
website. Managebac is a platform which both
students and teachers use to track their
assignments whether its their homework,
summatives or formatives and is very different
from Seesaw. Summatives are assignment that
determine your grades and formatives are in
class work that helps with your upcoming
summatives. You can find all of your classes,
blocks, teachers and classmates. There is also a
“Morning bulletin”, this shows the upcoming
events that will happen and can be found in “IB
manager” section of Managebac. Usually a
teacher or a student representative will present
the news at morning advisory.
