Reflection Essay

I have been able to grow in several ways in this class this semester. First, my

vocabulary has increased. Although my English is still limited in many areas, I am able

to use more words in class assignments, reading, searching, etc. than I did at the

beginning of this term. Second, I have gained the ability to see things from a new and

different perspective. In particular, in the instruction assignment, we focused on how to

present things to people. We thought about how to make people who have no knowledge

of the subject understand it, and actually had our classmates practice the instructions we

had created to see what kind of results we would get. By doing this, I was able to

understand how they received the instructions, their level of understanding, and their

level of awareness, and I was able to clearly identify points of failure and areas for

improvement, such as how to make the instructions more understandable to them next

time.

The goal of this class was to change the way we think and communicate. Most
of the instructions, white papers, or engagement projects we have done this semester

have been based on the assumption that we are going to show them to people who don't

know anything about them, and how to explain them to them. We used to do these

assignments assuming that professionals knew what they were doing. However, the

priority we had to consider when completing these assignments was how to

communicate and how to get people to understand. Learning this is what we want

people to know, what we want to appeal to them, and how to apply this to advertising,

etc. I thought it was important to realize that when we should be aware of this, we

should not be caught up in our previous perceptions, but rather, we should be aware of

various perspectives and alter our awareness. And I thought learning how to

communicate this was also a goal of this class.

The assignment in this course that I thought proud of myself was white paper.

There are still many things that need to be fixed, flaws and wastes, but it was my most

proud assignment. In this assignment I wrote about air pollution, a topic from the

reaction book I chose on the first day. Since this assignment was also something that

people would call on and appeal to, I wanted it to be something that others would find

interesting, easily understandable, and sympathetic, so I attached images and included

multiple illustrations to make it more approachable. Combined with the fact that my
vocabulary is still limited, I am inevitably direct and simple. However, when reading

about a field in which I have no interest at all, I thought that this, on the other hand,

would also be an advantage for the reader, who might find it easy to read into. The

course was a lot of fun to learn, plus the class discussions and peer reviews were very

helpful and helped me understand the importance of having people look at and check

my work. (528 words)
