gender inequality in school sports. Science & Sports, 29, S20.

- Stereotyping through socialization is the biggest factor of influencing school sports

- These stereotypes lead young girls to have conflict between being feminine and playing sports as
if the two cannot mix.
- It is important that this inequality within sports is acted on so that it doesn’t continue.
- One change that would help would be if people were given opportunism soul based on their skills
and abilities and not his or her gender.
- Results from surveys show women and other minorities are represented excessively in less-
powerful, low-earning part-time jobs.
- Compared to non-sports jobs, this inequality and occupational segregation is far more common in
this field.
- Research on this topic is important because it brings attention to the overrepresentation of
women and other minorities in lower status positions when men fill the high-power ones.
- The portrayal of female athletes in media is harmful. They are subjected to objectification and
invisibility compared to male athletes.
- The inequality in sports won’t stop until the media changes the way women are portrayed.
- Society often obsesses more over women’s bodies when they play sports rather than the actual
sport being played.
- Media is one of the most influential forms of socialization today.
- Women and men are socialized differently from an early age. Men are taught to play sports and
women are taught that sports are only for boys.
- Many female athletes believe that media is the cause for the unfair pair in this field of work
- People have to go out of their way to find a channel on TV playing women’s sports
- The leads to less pay for the women because the views are what make the money. Women’s
sports are underrepresented in media.
- This leads to many believing that the lack of media coverage for women’s sports is
discriminatory
- Investigating gender inequality is very important and it always will be.
- Interview participants from Nigera say that the pay gap between men and woman can be up to
80%.
- There seems to not be enough progress being made to solve these issues despite all the attention
that is attempted to gain
- Results from a study where many articles about this particular subject were analyzed, there was
nowhere near enough being published. It is said that there was only one article about this topic
per month. There needs to be way more information spread about this topic.
- It is said that in many of the articles analyzed, there is a lot of attention drawn to women’s
physical appearances when it has absolutely nothing to do with the sport they play.
- Many of the articles spoke of common female stereotypes like, being passive or emotional etc.
- Equal opportunities are what make equal treatment when it comes to gender in sports and many
other types of work
- Many women occupy lower-paying jobs with lower-power where they can’t make big decisions
- The different desires and needs of men and women should benefit them.
- Stereotypes are put into your mind on your own during socialization
- Many sports and other physical activity and deemed by society as masculine, and there are many
that are deemed as feminine. This is harmful because these activities can be done by anyone.
