● The purpose of the laboratory exercise is to allow students to observe, and witness the
reactions that will take place on each test. In this way, they will truly learn how
substances react with addition of different chemicals. Learning will be more accurately
acquired once it will be performed by the students hence performing the laboratory
exercise.
Briefly describe the procedure used in the activity. (Brief in this context means short but
it comprehendly covers the needed information):
● Solubility in Water
Take a tiny amount of the desi ghee, veggie ghee, and refined oil samples accordingly,
test tubes A, B, and C.
1) Fill test tubes A, B, and C with distilled water in tiny amounts.
2) Thoroughly shake each test tube.
3) Keep track of observations.
● Solubility with alcohol
1) Place a tiny amount of the vegetable ghee, desi ghee, and refined oil samples
accordingly, test tubes A, B, and C.
2) Drop a few drops of ethyl alcohol into each test tube using a dropper.
3) Thoroughly shake each test tube.
4) Prior to heating the test tubes, note observations.
5) Heat the water in a beaker using the Bunsen burner and triangular tripod support.
6) Put the test tubes in a beaker of boiling water.
7) After the test tubes have been heated, note observations.
● Solubility with Chloroform
1) Place a tiny amount of the vegetable ghee, desi ghee, and refined oil samples in
accordingly, test tubes A, B, and C.
2) Drop little volumes of chloroform into test tubes A, B, and C using a dropper.
3) Thoroughly shake each test tube.
4) Keep track of observations.
● Translucent Spot Test
1) Scoop up a little amount of the desi ghee sample with a spatula.
2) Move it to a piece of filter paper.
3) Use a different filter to press the substance.
4) Conduct the experiment once more using refined oil and vegetable ghee. Place the
Tilter papers in front of a lit candle and move them into position.
6) Document findings
● Acrolein Test
1) Place a tiny amount of the vegetable ghee, desi ghee, and refined oil samples in
accordingly, test tubes A, B, and C.
2) In test tubes A, B, and C, add small amounts of crystals of potassium bisulfate.
3). Heat each test tube using the tongs over the Bunsen burner.
4) Keep track of observations.
● Baudouin Test
1) Place a tiny amount of the melted samples of desi ghee and vanaspati ghee in A and
B, two test tubes, respectively.
2) Drop little volumes of strong hydrochloric acid into the test with dropper B and A
tubes.
3) Utilizing a different dropper, apply 2% furfural solution in alcohol in tiny doses to the
containers A and B.
4) Give the test tubes a thorough shake and set them aside for five to ten minutes.
5) Keep an observation log.
● Cholesterol Test
1) Select the A and B test tubes.
2) Drop little volumes of chloroform into test tubes A and B using a dropper.
3) Fill test tubes A and B with modest volumes of cotton seed oil using a different
dropper test tube B containing linseed oil.
4) Thoroughly shake the test containers.
5) Add a few drops of Huble's reagent to each test tube using a different dropper.
6) Take notes on what you see.

Reaction to the video (You may state here whether you like or dislike the video based on
the manner how it was presented. Provide reasons for your views or opinion) (1
paragraph will do for this part):
The video that we saw is very clear and we can understand the lesson thoroughly though some
of the experiments that were shown were quite difficult to understand but since she explained it
very well the topics seem to be easy to understand. The video is interesting and it answers
some of our questions that we have kept in our minds.
The person who performed the experiments did a great job for she follows the rules when doing
an experiment. Her explanation is very clear and easy to understand. We also like the way she
performed the experiments very carefully.
Overall, the video is really good and knowledgeable enough for us.
Important learnings acquired from the video (1 paragraph will do for this part):
The important learnings we acquired from this video are the different reactions of substances
depending on the chemical and its amount that was dropped to each tube. We learned that we
should always be cautious as to what substance we will mix and immediately observe the
reaction after to record accurate data. Measurement and quantity of the substance must be
carefully observed to avoid different outcomes of the experiment. Safe handling of chemicals
and proper usage of lab gowns will be observed to prevent injuries and keep everyone safe.
