Today is October 16th, World Food Day. For this reason, the school is
organising a slightly different day, with a visit from two nutritionists who will
do different types of activities.

1 To start the day there will be a poster contest about the nutrition function.
Draw the digestive system, label its parts and answer the questions:

a) What processes does the nutrition function encompass? What systems


participate?

b) Which parts of the digestive system are in the thorax and which are in
the abdomen?

c) What parts of the digestive system are tube-shaped? Which has got
sack or bag shape?

d) Between the oesophagus and the stomach is a ring-shaped muscle. It


closes when food passes from the oesophagus to the stomach. Why
do you think that happens?

2 Nutritionists insist on the importance of following a healthy diet because


it is an important way of taking care of our body. Building a healthy
diet starts at the supermarket; It is important to make good purchases.
Different labels have been created to help consumers choose between
natural or processed foods.
a) What is a processed food? And ultra-processed?

b) One of these labels is the ‘Nutri-Score’. Look for information about


this system and answers the questions: What is its purpose? What is
this labelling like?

c) Do you think this way of labelling food makes it easier or more difficult
for buyers to choose? Why?

d) Do you think fresh products like fruits and vegetables should carry the

3 Nutritionists remind us that healthy diets are not the same for everyone.
They must be adapted to the needs of each individual.
a) What factors influence these needs?

b) Prepare a daily menu with five meals (breakfast, lunch, lunch, snack
and dinner) for a swimmer who is preparing for the Olympic Games.
What nutrient should predominate in this person’s diet?

4 Finally, we have been reminded of the importance of drinking fluids.


Having adequate hydration is a key habit of maintaining a healthy
lifestyle.
How does water influence urine? What other systems eliminate waste
substances?
