Induction Motor Calculations Guide

This document contains three numerical problems involving induction motors. The first problem asks to determine the slip of a 3-phase 10 hp, 208 V, 60 Hz, 6-pole induction motor running at 1140 rpm. The second problem involves calculating the speed of the magnetic field, rotor speed at 3% slip, and rotor current frequency for a 4-pole, 50 Hz induction motor. The third problem provides the efficiency, line current, power factor, and slip of a 400V, 6-pole induction motor, asking to calculate the shaft output and torque.

Numerical Problems
1. Determine the slip of a 3-phase 10 hp, 208 V, 60 Hz, 6-pole induction motor
running at 1140 rpm.
2. A 3-phase induction motor is wound for four poles and is supplied from a 50-Hz
supply. Calculate (a) speed of magnetic field (i.e. synchronous speed) (b) the rotor
and slip speed when the slip is 3% (c) The frequency of the rotor current when rotor
speed is 900 rpm.
Answers: 1500 rpm, 1455 rpm, 20Hz
3. A 400V, 3-phase, 6-pole induction motor gives efficiency of 85% when it
draws a line current of 80A at 0.75 power factor and at 4% slip. Calculate the
shaft output (useful power) and shaft torque. [Answers: 35.33kW, 351.5 N.m]
