All About Search

Engine Optimization
Introduction to SEO

• Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of

generating more organic (i.e. free, natural) traffic
from search engines on relevant search queries

• When you search for something on Google, for

example, you are taken to the search engine
results page (SERP)

• On the first search page, you will find organic

search results as well as paid ads & google
sponsor posts

• Ecommerce SEO is all about ensuring your

product pages appear among those search
results
Introduction to SEO
• One point to keep in mind is that every time you search for something, there are several pages that
appear

• However, the name of the game is to rank as high on the first page of the search engine/website
because the higher the page number you rank on, the lower the traffic you’ll generate

• A recent study found that only 4.8% of searchers make it to the second page of search results and an
even lower 1.1% to page three

• To summarize, if you don’t have a strong SEO strategy in place, you are losing out on brand
impressions, clicks, potential sales and traffic!

Why Should Product Pages Be Optimized?

An optimized product page performs better than an ordinary product page because;

It ranks better on It drives more traffic & It has more returning It has a fair chance of
search engine conversions compared visitors than a non- being a part of Google
results page (SERP) to a non-optimized optimized page featured snippets
page
How Can Sellers Optimize Products?
Unique Content

The key to optimizing product pages is for sellers to focus

on search visibility

One way to do that is to add unique product descriptions

to your SKUs (refer to example shown)

Always use unique content while uploading details on the

product pages

Product pages without any product description or photos

have very low chances of getting ranked or drive any sort
of conversions

Even 100 to 150 words can make a huge change in terms

of ranking so make sure to put in time and thought when
writing about your product
How Can Sellers Optimize Products?
Keyword Density

SEO keywords are the keywords and phrases in your content that make it possible for people to find your
products via search engines

Keyword density is the percentage of the number of times a keyword appears on a page divided by the total
number of words in that page. So if in a description of 100 words you are using your keyword 10 times, your
density will be 10%

We encourage sellers to maintain a good

Keyword Density from of 1-2%

For example, if you are uploading the content

for Galaxy S10, make sure you use keywords like
‘Galaxy S10 price in Pakistan’ at least 3 to 4
times in your content to enhance its search
visibility and improve its rank (refer to image)
How Can Sellers Optimize Products?
External Links

External links also known as 3rd party links are what sellers might attach in their product descriptions for the
customers reference

This has been discovered to be a problem

with a lot of SKUs. They contain a link to 3rd
party websites within the content only

For example in case of a mobile phone

SKU majority of the content contains links
to websites like Whatmobile and
Whatprice (refer to image)

We encourage sellers to remove these

links from the content to improve the
ranking of the product page
How Can Sellers Optimize Products?
Frequent Engagement

Engagement is very important when it comes to

SEO

The customers tend to convert more to a product

page that answers their queries more fluently

Engagement factor is essential as search engine

promotes pages that show signs of frequent
engagement

When customers review your products after

buying, it improves the search engine rankings of
that product and also drives good traffic with the
search rating snippet
