Task 1 Outline

First Impressions of the stimulus:

My initial thoughts and feelings on the given stimulus in the assignment were flashes of war
throughout history and the Olympics and how we as a group can help spread the message of
the brief ‘We made history, now it’s your turn.’
Intended Purpose of your devised performance:
The intention of our devised performance is to celebrate the differences of the different
members of The League of Nations. Our piece intends to explore the themes and the issues
of the impact of war. This connects our ideas to the stimulus in the assignment brief because
of the signing of The Treaty of Versailles made history showing the audience that it’s our
turn as the newest generation.
Intended Effect of Your Performance:
The genre of the stimulus fell into the category of war & conflict for our piece. This style of
stimulus was abstract to us as a group. This will allow us to explore in performance the way
we never did before. The mood presented by the stimulus was a very contrasting mood due
to the ‘history’ segment of it. To conclude, the genre, style, mood, and atmosphere will allow
us to meet our intentions of making the audience think that they are witnessing a
conference by The League of Nations.
Different Styles and their Demands:
As a group, we intend to apply physical theatre to our performance. Presenting work
physically will allow us to express our characters behavior differently than words would.
However, by using physical theatre in rehearsals we will need to consider health and safety
risks such as making sure there are no blockers in the way i.e., chairs or bags.
Practitioners – Frantic and Brecht:
Through workshop-based lessons, we have explored practitioners such as Brecht and Frantic
Assembly. Frantic assembly places importance on physical theatre and ways we can become
more physical with our words instead of just using pure movement. I intended to use Frantic
Assembly as my practitioner as it uses building blocks to fuse physical theatre and
naturalistic dialogue together.
Intended Themes and Ideas:
Our performance intends to explore a different theme in each scene, they have been
outlined in our concept tree. Scene two intends to explore the theme of confidentiality. This
would make the audience feel a sense of business and they watch disagreements being
made and the team falling apart. Scene three will explore the theme of teamwork. It shows
France and The US making an alliance as they were both removed from the League of
Nations on their own terms. Scene four will explore the theme of history. We see chair duets
happening of dodging bullets as if it was the real WW2 and it shown as if it’s a story that’s to
be told. Scene four will explore the theme of unification. We are presented with a news

report of the Olympics being held officially after the Second World War. Our themes have
been directly influenced by our research surrounding the idea of the course of events that
carried WW2 and got Hitler into power.
Resources Available:
Our performance has access to resources such as stage blocks, sound, lighting, and
costumes. I would like to make use of the stage blocks because it allows our horizons to be
expanded of what we can do to make our performance the best it can be. This will allow me
to show the true meaning of creativity as we use the stage blocks in scenes like Scene 5
when there’s a podium when the UK held the Olympics in London.
Scale of Performance:
Our performance will be made up of 5 performers. We intend our performance to last for
about 5 minutes. Structuring our performance in this way will ensure that we can
communicate our intention or overall-arching concept because it won’t look messy to the
audience and hopefully, they should receive the message of the next generation keeping
balance with one another.
Pervious Experience and Interest: Through my experience performing a scripted piece in unit
one, I will include the use of line learning and gaining eye contact with the audience, when
necessary, in my performance as I was able to identify this as a strength. However, I need to
consider previous targets for myself, such as showing more emotion in my words. In my
performance, I want to be inclusive. Therefore, my interest in hearing others feedback can
be used in the performance by changing what looks poorly made or doesn’t fit the criteria of
the piece.
