Morgan Preston - Educator Philosophy

I believe every child deserves to be supported to reach their fullest potential. I also fully

believe that success should look different for every student and promise to celebrate every

student’s accomplishments wholeheartedly. All children hold unique and intelligent ways of

learning and I will provide for them all so that all students' needs are fulfilled. I will create deep

personal connections with students in order to provide the best education possible while trying to

cater to each student’s individual needs. I believe that respect is earned through trust-building

and development. Truly, we only gain power through empowering others.

I believe that a nurturing, healthy classroom environment is the first step to successful

education. I will build a fun learning environment that can act as a tool to build lifelong

independent learners who can problem-solve and accomplish difficult tasks. All students deserve

equitable access to the classroom and educational materials regardless of gender, sexuality, race,

religion, or ability level. I will provide all needed accommodations for all students. Additionally,

I will design my classroom with the Universal Design for Learning in mind so that the classroom

is physically accessible for all students. By understanding the diversity of all students in my

classroom, I will use trauma-informed and social-emotional learning practices that will create a

healthy and positive classroom environment. I will be curious about my students and their

thinking processes so I can better understand how to teach them. I will frequently use low-risk

formative assessments to understand where my students are in their learning process, while also

promoting them to be authentic on their examinations.

Butler has prepared me to lead a classroom this way because of its student-focused

curriculum and dedication to sharing marginalized voices when discussing the current climate of

the education system. I feel that I have learned the importance of trauma-informed pedagogy as
well as social-emotional learning practices. Butler has shown me the many truths of schools and

classrooms within Indianapolis and I feel that I am fully prepared to dedicate myself to students

in these ways.
