In this assignment you are required to do the following tasks

Task 1: Identify market structures by doing the following:

Choose two well-known companies from different industries. Research and identify the market
structure that each company falls under. Provide a brief justification for your choice by considering
factors such as the number of competitors, product differentiation, and entry barriers etc.

Company A: Select a company that operates in an industry resembling perfect competition or

monopolistic competition.

Company B: Choose a company that operates in an industry resembling monopoly or oligopoly.

Task 2: Provide a comparative analysis by looking at characteristics and Implications as provided

below:

For each of the two companies (Company A and Company B), compare and contrast the market
structure characteristics and their implications on the following aspects:

Number of Competitors: Analyze how many firms operate in the market and their impact on pricing
and output decisions.

Product Differentiation: Discuss whether the companies offer standardized or differentiated

products, and how this affects their pricing strategies.

Entry Barriers: Examine the barriers that potential new entrants face in each market and their
influence on market dynamics.

Price Determination: Explain how each company sets its prices, considering the demand and supply
conditions.

Consumer Power: Evaluate the degree of influence consumers have on shaping the companies'
strategies.

Task 3: Overall Comparison

Provide a concise comparison of the market structures of Company A and Company B. Discuss which
market structure you believe is more conducive to consumer welfare, competition, and economic
efficiency. Justify your stance with evidence from your analysis.
