ASSESSMENT ■ Major Project 1 Literature Guideline

1. Literature review of the project i.e. topic being done

1.1 Introduction talk about purpose of literature review and how it will lead you to
came up with an approach to solve your problem.

1.2 What are the areas of ICT technology you are solving? It should be informed
by the proposal area i.e. the broad topics you talked about in the proposal
solution of background section. For instance if one is developing an online
based job registration system what areas affect the development of such
system obviously one has to look at issues like online. What do we mean by
being online and how many forms of online are available and what
technologies can be used to implement an online system. Then one has to
look at another area influencing the system functionality, that is registration
what is registration and type of registration processes exists and normally
what is registered and why should be it be . It’s a computers system
therefore it has database system for storing information, what is a computers
system what should it have i.e. the sections. And how they can be
implemented and what can be used to implement them Database, Files,
Arrays, XML etc, the Logic part what does it to do i.e. the business in this
example the business logic is the online registration for job seekers.

1.3 Consider literature review bow related to your research questions which
should now form the subtopics of your literature review. For instance how
does one create registration module of a systems and what is involved and
how does it work…. Look at various registration modules of other working
systems and critique how they work to register and what was to develop
them… what good features can you borrows and why
1.4 Are there any systems like the one you are proposing that are working and
how are they working If information is available how have they been created
i.e. the techniques and algorithms used to implement the various parts of the
system as critiqued per computer system. What techniques and algorithms
have been used to implement the system and how does it work. For instance
if it has input validation how does it do it. Look an example below its validation
for registration where a user inputs a blank page and the system gives
feedback that you need to fill in the missing details.

Maybe the system has shopping cart so how does it

1.4.1 What problems are with the current systems being used? What problems
are faced by such a system and what good techniques that you can
borrow to implement in your system and why? what improvements can
you make, do you think there is something effective or different that you
can do that that brings more value to what is currently happening

1.4.2 In which areas are the existing systems being used and how? What
improvements are you going to borrow? How are you going to approach
your development i.e. any new improvements, new things etc.

2 Summary to Literature Review should talk about

2.1 Approaches i.e. algorithms, techniques for software functionality,
Development technology i.e. if web based what would be the developing
tools, if mobile communication what tools would be used, if intranet based
what tools would be used, if stand developing tools would be used.

2.2 What type of software development methodology to use, What would be

the architecture of the system and its functionality : For example the online
based job registration system: Systems architecture or layout would be as
