Verses and Hadith about Dua

Dua is asking the creator, Allah (swt) to assist in one’s life it is also a means to asking for
forgiveness. I have collected a list of verses from the Quran and ahadith about making dua.

Doing dua on its own isn’t enough though it is an excellent thing to do. Actions needed after
making dua. It is not enough just to make dua and sit back and watch things happen like a
miracle.

Dua is worship and Allah loves the servant who supplicate to Him. The Dua is recommended
and the one who abandons it loses out on the good.

Dua is worship
Allah says:

And your Lord said: “Call upon Me, I will answer you. Verily, those who scorn My worship they
will surely enter Jahannam in humiliation!” Quran 40:60

The Prophet (saw) said:

The dua is the brains of worship. Tirmidhi

He supplicates to Allah but his food and drink are of Haram. So how can his dua be answered?”
Muslim

Best times to make Dua.

The closest a servant be to his Lord is when he is in sujood (prostration), so make dua frequently.
Tirmidhi

The Messenger (saw) was asked: which dua is heard most? He (saw) replied:

Dua in the middle of the night and at the end of the obligatory prayers.
Messenger of Allah (saw) said:

The supplications of three people are not rejected: the supplication of a fasting person at the time
of breaking fast, of a just ruler, and of a person who is wronged. Allah causes their supplications
to rise above the clouds, and gates of heaven are opened for them, and Allah says, ‘By My
Majesty, I will help you, even if it is after a while. (Tirmidhi)
Allah answers the dua of the one who asks Him. He answers the distressed servant when he calls
out to Him. As Allah says:

And when My servants ask you (O Muhammad concerning Me, then answer them), I am indeed
near (to them by My knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on
Me. So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright. Quran 2:186
Is not He Who responds to the distressed one, when he calls on Him, and Who removes the
evil.. Quran 27:62

Conditions of dua being answered

Any Muslim who makes a supplication containing nothing that is sinful and nothing that
involves breaking ties of blood relationships, will be given for it by Allah one of these three
things:
1. He may accept his request,
2. or save its reward for him in the next world,
3. or turn away from him an equal amount of evil.
Those who heard it said, We would, then, make many supplications. The Prophet (saw) replied,
Allah is more than ready to answer what you ask. (Ahmad and Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad)
The dua of the servant will be answered if he does not ask for the cutting of blood ties and is not
impatient, It was asked: O Messenger of Allah, what is impatience? He (saw) said: impatience is
when the servant says, I supplicated but my dua was not heard and so he becomes distressed and
leaves making supplication. (Muslim)
Verses related to gaining forgiveness from Allah.
