The option of using public transport with a student ID card will end at the end of the 2023 summer semester. The reason for this is
the introduction of a nationwide „Deutschlandticket“ in May 2023.
However, in line with this change the semester fee has been reduced accordingly by more than €50.
The Deutschlandticket is valid throughout Germany (not for ICE trains) and costs €49 per month.
Pupils and students under the age of 27 can buy a youth ticket (JugendticketBW), which is valid throughout Baden-Württemberg
and costs €365 per year payable monthly (€30.42).
Students over the age of 27 can buy a training ticket (Ausbildungsticket27), which is valid throughout Baden-
Württemberg and costs €46.67 per month.

Information about “blocked bank account” – Sperrkonto (for visa purposes)

On order to get a Visa, International Students must open a „Sperrkonto“ (blocked account) before the visa can be
issued. Normally 11,208 € (934 € x 12months) must be deposited into this account.

However, the local immigration office insist on proof of your financial security for the whole of the study period (18
months) which means you will have to deposit another 5,604 € before they will consider a visa extension/ residence
permit.

This means we highly recommend that you deposit 16,812 € at the outset!
