PW 05 : Distillation column

Distillation column is a key component in the process of distillation, which is used to separate and
purify components of a liquid mixture based on their different boiling points. Distillation columns
are commonly used in industries such as petrochemical, chemical, and oil refining to separate and
purify various liquids and chemicals. In this tutorial, we propose simulating the operation of the
distillation column using the process simulation software HYSYS. The objective of this work will
be to study the influence of various key parameters in distillation that cannot be addressed
experimentally.

Application:
Simulate a distillation column using the following data:

Feed data:

Components Molar fraction

Propane 0.4
Propene 0.6
Pressure 2068 Kpas
V/F 1
Molar flow rate 600 kg.mol/hr

Specification:

Reboiler temperature: 57.2 °C.

Reflux ratio: 16.4.
