Lesson 4 Digestive System Foldable

Your digestive system breaks down food so your body's cells can use it to make energy. Digestion begins in the mouth where food is chewed and saliva mixes with it. The food then moves through the esophagus into the stomach where chemicals and muscle squeezing break it down further. Next, nutrients from the food are absorbed in the small intestine and nourish cells, and any remaining food moves to the large intestine where more nutrients are absorbed before waste leaves the body.
