Outline three (3) personal hygiene practices you can employ to assist with the
prevention of spreading infections

1. Handwashing on a regular basis:

Hands should be thoroughly washed with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after using the
restroom, before eating, and after coughing or sneezing.

If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

Pay close attention to every part of your hands, including the backs, between your fingers, and under
your nails.

2. Respiration Hygiene:

When you sneeze or cough, cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or a tissue.

Discard the used tissues quickly and properly.

Refrain from touching your face, particularly your mouth, nose, and eyes, as this can spread bacteria
from your hands.

3. Maintaining Personal Hygiene and Order:

Keep up a regular shower or bathing schedule to keep your body clean.

Change your clothes frequently and use fresh towels, especially if you have been perspiring.

Use dental floss and brush your teeth at least twice a day to maintain good oral hygiene.

Ques – 3. You are looking after a patient who has gastroenteritis on the ward and is isolated in a single
room on contact precautions. A nurse next door has asked if she could use the observation equipment
that is currently in your patient's room. What would be your response to the nurse regarding sharing of
equipment?

I appreciate you getting in touch. I understand why you require the observational tools. But it's critical
that we uphold stringent infection control procedures because my patient is presently isolated due to
gastroenteritis and is being treated with contact precautions. Exchange of equipment from the enclosed
space could lead to the possibility of cross-contamination.

I would advise looking into other options, like contacting the unit coordinator or the equipment storage
area, to obtain the observation equipment. In this manner, we can guarantee our patients' safety and
uphold infection control guidelines. I'd be pleased to guide you through the procedure if you need help
locating the equipment."
