Havasu Falls are in the Havasu Canyon next to the Grand Canyon in the southwestern USA. There are actually three waterfalls in the area: Havasu, Mooney and Navajo. The waterfalls are in the Havasupai Indian Reservation, the home of the Havasupai people. ‘Havasupai’ means ‘people of the blue-green waters.’ The best time to visit the falls is in spring, in the months of April and May because the weather is cool, but it is warm enough to swim. Later, in summer, it gets hot and rainy and there can be floods, too. Visitors can camp in a campsite or stay at the Havasu Lodge. But you have to book a room at the lodge three or four months before you plan to go. To reach the falls you start at the parking area at Hualapai Hilltop. From there you can walk, ride a horse or fly in a helicopter to Supai village, 13 kilometer away. From Supai village it is about 4 kilometer to Mooney Falls. You don't have to be an experienced hiker to walk to the falls because the walk is safe, even for beginners. However, you must be very careful because there are many dangerous eliffs. There are also caves to explore on the way. It is a good idea to take water with you and to watch out for rattlesnakes, too. Whether you walk, ride a horse or take the helicopter, the impressive waterfalls and the peaceful surroundings make this one of the most fascinating places you can visit. (1) A national flag isn’t just fabric hanging from a flagpole. It is a nation’s most widely recognized symbol. It is a representation of a nation’s character. Inspired by its history, culture and people. (2) The way history influences a flag can be clearly seen in the US flag; fifty stars represent the fifty states, and thirteen red and white horizontal stripes symbolize the first states ever to join the union. Also known as the stars and Stripes or the Star-Spangled Banner, after which the national anthem was named, the flag has been a source of pride throughout American history. (3) While flags come in a variety of colours, their shape rarely varies. The only non- rectangular flag is that of Nepal, which consists of two triangles or pennants stuck together, and the flag of Switzerland, which is square. The most common colour is red, Which appears on 75% of all flags, and represents bravery. It is closely followed in particularity by white, which symbolizes innocence and is found on 70% of flags worldwide. Blue, which symbolizes freedom and justice, is present on 50% of the world's flags. (4) For this reason, many flags can appear similar to each other. Both the flags of the Republic of Ireland and the Ivory Coast have the same colours, but in reverse order. The flags of Chad and Romania seem identical at first glance. Indeed, both have vertical stripes of blue, yellow and red — and it takes a keen eye to notice that the Romanian flag has a slightly lighter blue. (6) Flags often include emblems. Animals are a common feature, like the dragon on the Welsh flag, the lion holding a sword on the Sri Lanka flag. Interestingly, only one, that of Belize, features humans. The sun also makes regular appearances on flags, the most famous being the Japanese flag with the red dot, commonly known as Hinomaru, ‘the circle of the sun’. Coffee has many positive properties that are good for your health. Drinking coffee can help reduce the chances of some cancers, stomach and neurological diseases, type 2 diabetes, and even heart disease. 5 Coffee has had a long and interesting history on its road to becoming the much- loved drink that it is today. The coffee bush was first discovered in Africa in the 9th century. The coffee berries that grow on the bushes contain coffee beans which can be made into a drink. The recipe for this drink was passed from Africa to the Middle East, to Europe, and then to the Americas. 40 Even though the drink we know as coffee is well known all around the world, most countries have their own special ways of making it. ‘Cowboy coffee’ is made in Finland and Norway by mixing coffee and boiling water together in a kettle and pouring out the liquid into a cup without the grounds. 414 Turkish coffee is made by mixing very finely ground coffee and sugar in a small pot with a long handle called an ibrik. The ibrik is held over a fire and then removed when the coffee comes to the boil. The mixture is poured into a small ceramic cup and drunk slowly, leaving the grounds at the bottom. 18 Arabic coffee is made from coffee beans roasted lightly with cardamom. It is a traditional beverage in most of Arab countries. Traditionally, it is roasted on the premises at home and served in front of guests. It is often served with dates, sweets or candied fruit. 22 Italians typically drink small cups of espresso every day and usually don't even sit down when they order it; they drink it and leave. Many people in the US have an electric coffeemaker which uses a filter to separate the water from the coffee. Hot water drips through the grounds and comes out as the drink they know and love. There is even a way to make coffee using a roasted coconut and the milk inside it! 28 Whichever way you prefer your daily cup of coffee, there’s no doubt about it, coffee is something the whole world loves!
