Lesson 1
THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF GOD

One of the attributes of God is love. He doesn't just love, He is love—the very essence
of who He is. Love motivates His every action, directs His activities, and reflects His
desires.

1 John 4:7,8
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born
of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

I. THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF GOD

The love that we can see in our culture is mainly that of a conditional love. Most people
feel that they should only give love as long as it is also given to them. People set
conditions that must be met in order to earn their love. We tend to love only those who
we feel are deserving of our love.

The love of God is unconditional. It is without limit, restrictions or conditions. Though

we are undeserving, God still loves us.

A. God’s love is in nite

God’s love is beyond human comprehension. Nothing within our entire universe, seen
or unseen, can separate us from God’s love.

Ephesians 3:19
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with
all the fulness of God.

Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other
creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
fi
B. God’s love is sacri cial
God’s love is demonstrated when His only begotten Son died to pay for the sin we
cannot pay and to give us eternal life we do not deserve.

1 John 4:9,10
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only
begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that
we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died
for us.

C. Through His love, God gave the gift of eternal life

Jesus made it possible for us to receive eternal life. Many people try to earn eternal life
but God already made it free to those who will come by faith in Jesus Christ.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

APPLICATION

Do you believe that God loves you?

Do you know if you have already received God’s gift of eternal life?

Lesson 2
THE NATURE OF MAN

I. THE CREATION OF MAN

The Bible alone gives us truth about the origin of man. It tells us that man was created
by God in accordance to His plan.

A. The Bible teaches that the creation of man does not involve any evolutionary
process, it was direct and immediate. Man did not descend from other species and
did not develop over a long period of time.

Genesis 2:7
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his
nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Genesis 2:22
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and
brought her unto the man.

B. The Bible also tells us that man was created in God’s image and likeness. This
express the idea that man is in some way the reflection of God. Man is a living and
moral being, he also possesses intelligence, emotion and will.

Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and
female created he them.

II. THE FALL OF MAN

The Fall of Man is a historical event, it records the entrance of sin in the human race.

A. The Command
Adam was given a simple command by God to determine whether or not he would
believe God and obey Him. Disobedience meant death both physical and spiritual.
Genesis 2:16
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou
mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat
of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

B. The Temptation
It was the serpent who tempted Eve, however, the temptation must be seen as coming
through Satan.

Revelation 12:9
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which
deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out
with him.

1. Satan raised doubt on God's Word

Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had
made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree
of the garden?

2. Satan then lied

Genesis 3:4
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and
ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

C. The Disobedience of Adam and Eve

Genesis 3:6
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to
the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and
did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

III. THE SINFUL NATURE OF MAN

The Fall of Man resulted in judgment on the serpent, Satan, woman, man and all
creation. The result of Adam's sin was also passed on to the entire human race.
A. Man is born with an inherited sinful nature

Psalms 51:5
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity;
and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Romans 3:10,23
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

B. Man is subject to death

Death always indicates a separation of some kind. Sin not only resulted in physical
death but also spiritual death or separation from God in this present life. If this
condition continues unchanged throughout life, then eternal death or the second
death follows .

Romans 5:12
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death
passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our
Lord.

Revelation 20:14,15
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Do you believe that you are created by God?

Do you accept that you are a sinner and that you need Jesus to be saved?
Have you accepted Christ as your savior?

Lesson 3
THE TRIUMPHANT DEATH OF CHRIST

Knowing Jesus Christ personally is the greatest adventure anyone can experience.
Who is Jesus Christ?

I. JESUS CHRIST IS GOD

Jesus is the greatest person who ever lived but the Bible teaches that He is more than
just a mere man. The following proofs show that Jesus Christ is God.

1. Jesus claimed to be God

John 10:30-33
I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus
answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of
those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we
stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself
God.

This is the clearest statement of Jesus’s divinity he ever made. They are one in essence
and nature. He is not just a good teacher- He is God.

2. Jesus claimed equality with God

John 5:17-18
But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the
sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

3. Jesus possesses the attribute of omniscience

John 2:24
But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
4. His followers and enemies recognized Him as God

Matthew 16:16
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living
God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh
and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 27:54
Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the
earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was
the Son of God.

II. THE TRIUMPHANT DEATH OF CHRIST

The Lord Jesus Christ was born and assumed complete human nature with all its
limitations so that He can die in our place. Some may view the death of Christ as a loss
or tragedy but it was truly triumphant because through His death, God has provided a
way to bring us to Him.

A. Jesus had no sin but He died for the penalty of our sins

2 Corinthians 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him.

When we trust Christ, we make an exchange, He takes our sin and makes us right with
God. Our sin was laid on Christ at his crucifixion and His righteousness is given to us at
conversion.

B. Jesus Christ came to give us eternal life

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

To believe is more than intellectual agreement that Jesus is God. It means to put our
trust and confidence in Him that He alone can save us.
C. He died to bring us to God

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he
might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

APPLICATION

Do you understand why he came to the world for you?
Have you made the decision to accept Christ’s death on the cross for you, and have
you received Him into your life as Savior and Lord?

Lesson 4
THE OBJECT OF FAITH

I. THE DEFINITION OF FAITH

Faith indicates a belief with the complimentary idea of reliance or confident trust
on something or someone. Faith is not a mere intellectual stance, but a belief that
leads to action. A common example to illustrate faith is that of a chair. I may say I
"believe" the chair can hold my weight, but I do not actually put faith in the chair until I
sit in it.

Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

II. THE OBJECT OF FAITH

Faith is necessary for salvation but equally important with faith is its object.
Where do we put our faith in? In what do we believe? To whom do we put our faith on?
Every person believes in something but faith can be misplaced. Even an atheist who
strongly believes that there is no God has faith. He places his faith in something other
than God.

A. False objects of faith.

1. Religion. Many people depend their salvation on their membership in their church
or religion. Some teach that their religion alone is true and there is no salvation in any
other. Before Paul came to know Christ, he was religious yet unsaved.

Galatians 1:14
And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being
more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
2. Conscience. Some follow what their heart dictates and believe that it is always
right. But the Bible tells us that we cannot completely trust what our heart, mind and
conscience tells us.

Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Titus 1:15
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is
nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

3. Good works. Some people think that their good moral and good works will earn
them salvation. If this is true, who can tell how much good works is enough to earn
salvation? The Bible teaches that man is not saved by good works or observance of the
law.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Romans 3:20
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the
law is the knowledge of sin.

4. Man or angel. Some people pray and put their trust in patron saints and angels
while others to religious personalities or preachers. No man or angel should be the
object of our faith. After performing a miracle in Lystra, Paul and Barnabas prevented
the people from worshipping them. Likewise, after an angel showed John what will
happen in the future, John fell down and tried to worship the angel but was also
prevented from doing so.

Acts 14:15
And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you,
and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which
made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

Revelation 22:9
Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy
brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
We should be careful for there could be many more false objects of faith that people
rely to for salvation.

Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man,
but the end thereof are the ways of death.

B. The true object of faith

The Bible is clear in its teaching that Jesus is the only way to heaven and that faith in
him is necessary to be saved.

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.

John 3:36
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son
shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Acts 4:10-12
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus
Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him
doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought
of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in
any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we
must be saved.

APPLICATION
Have you trusted any of the false objects of faith?
Do you trust Christ now as your Lord and savior?

Lesson 5
LIVING THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

I. CHANGES TO A MAN THAT IS IN CHRIST

Though the world may not see it yet, when you received Christ in your heart as Lord
and personal Savior, changes have happened in you.

A. Eternal destiny
Before you came to know Christ, you are destined to Hell because you are a sinner.
When you put your faith in Christ, God changed your eternal destiny to Heaven. You
now have a relationship with God and belongs to His family.

John 5:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent
me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from
death unto life.

John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even
to them that believe on his name:

B. Af liation
A Christian is one who put his faith in Jesus and follows Him. The word “Christian”
bears the name of Christ in it, so an individual who follow the teachings and life of
Christ is called a Christian. In the Bible, the word Christian was first mentioned in Acts
11:26, and it was a name given to the followers of Jesus Christ.

Acts 11:26
And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a
whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And
the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
fi
C. Inner change
God changed you at the moment of salvation by imparting you a new life. This is
followed by a lifetime of changing into the image of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new.

II. LIVING THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace,
and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Now that you have accepted Christ as your Lord and savior, God wants you to grow in
you relationship with Him. God has a wonderful plan for you. He wants to transform
you first before anything else. These are the habits that every Christian should develop
to grow spiritually.

A. Attending a church
A Christian is to attend a church and join other believers in worship. You will also meet
people in the church who will help you grow in your faith. It may be difficult at first as
you are not accustomed to church life but no Christian can grow properly without the
church.

Hebrews 10:25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but
exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

B. Praying
Prayer is simply talking to God. You can thank Him, praise Him, confess something you
have done wrong and ask Him for your needs. Jesus gave us the “Lord’s Prayer” as our
model on how to pray. It is not to be a memorized prayer that you recite over and over
again every time you pray but you should use it as a pattern. Most importantly, your
prayer should be sincere and come from your heart.

Matthew 6:9-13
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy
name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day
our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not
into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and
the glory, for ever. Amen.

C. Reading The Bible

If prayer is talking to God, reading the Bible is God’s way of talking to us. By reading
the Bible, you get to understand the heart and mind of God to you.
If you don’t have a Bible, you can always purchase one on a bookstore or perhaps
install a Bible app on your phone. Then you can start reading 1-3 chapter a day or
better yet get a Bible reading plan online.

2 Timothy 3:16,17
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect,
thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

D. Witnessing
God wants you to share with others about the truth that you have experienced and
heard. Your role as a witness is to both tell of the good news with your words and your
actions.

Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be
witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the
uttermost part of the earth.

1 Peter 2:9,10
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people;
that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into
his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of
God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Lesson 6
DECIDING TO FOLLOW CHRIST

The Lord Jesus Christ calls us to follow Him. Following Christ means following after His
example and obeying His commands. That is the essence of being a Christian or a
follower of Christ. After a person profess faith in Christ, the first step in following Him is
obeying His command to be baptized.

Luke 6:46
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven
and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of
the world. Amen.

I. THE IMPORTANCE OF BAPTISM

A. There are those who place too much importance in baptism making it a
requirement for salvation. Some teach that baptism washes away sins. To them, an
unbaptized person will not go to heaven. It is clear from the Bible that it is not baptism
but the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ which cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:7b
...and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Ephesians 1:7
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to
the riches of his grace;

The story of the thief on the cross proves that baptism is not a requirement for
salvation. He was given assurance that he would be in paradise the very day he
believed Christ though he was unbaptized (Luke 23:39-43). We are saved by grace and
not by act of baptism.
B. On the other hand, there are those who think that baptism is not important
since baptism is not necessary for salvation. They think that a person can be a
Christian without being baptized. The Lord Jesus Christ willingly submitted to baptism
in order to demonstrate its importance and to show us an example.

Matthew 3:13-15
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John
forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And
Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil
all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

C. The early Christians understood the importance of baptism

1. The Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ understood the importance of baptism as
they taught and administered it to the new believers in the Book of Acts.

Acts 2:41
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were
added unto them about three thousand souls.

Acts 16:33
And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was
baptized, he and all his, straightway.

2. The eunuch in Acts 8:26-38 understood that the rst thing that he needed to do
to be a follower of Christ after he believed is to get baptized.

Acts 8:36-38
And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said,
See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou
believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they
went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

It is important to be baptized because it is a command of the Lord Jesus Christ which

we ought to obey. A person who is unwilling to obey the first commandment of Christ
to every believer cannot truly be a follower of Christ.
fi
II. THE MEANING OF BAPTISM

Baptism is a public profession of identification with Christ. It means that the one being
baptized is making a public statement of being a follower of Christ. We also identify
with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ when we get baptized.

Romans 6:3,4
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into
his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ
was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life.

III. THE MODE OF BAPTISM

Immersion was the only mode practiced by the New Testament Church for the
following reasons:

A. The word baptize comes from the Greek word baptizo which means "to
immerse”. Jesus was immersed when he was baptized in the Jordan river.

Mark 1:9,10
And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was
baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the
heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:

B. Every baptism recorded in the Book of Acts was through immersion. One
example is the eunuch when he was baptized by Philip.

Acts 8:38
And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water,
both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

C. Baptism symbolizes the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. No other mode
of baptism best pictures burial than immersion.

Romans 6:3,4
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into
his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ
was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life.

IV. THE CANDIDATE FOR BAPTISM

To be candidate for baptism, one must be a "saved" individual - having personally

professed repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the reason why we also
do not believe that infants should be baptized, because they are still incapable of
understanding salvation.

Acts 8:36, 37
And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said,
See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou
believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that
Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Every baptism recorded in the book of Acts is that of an individual who had heard the
gospel, consciously repented and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.

Baptism being the first step in following Christ, it is just right that baptism should follow
as soon as possible after receiving Christ as savior. We can read in the Book of Acts of
believers immediately getting baptized after professing faith in Christ.
