In planning this trip I used two apps without which I could not have done it:

I used www.sygic.com which for any location shows detailed maps of interesting sites,
maps out the best walking route and shows the walking times,

I also used www.rome2rio.com which will tell you how to get from one place to another
by foot, bus, train or plane and gives detailed schedules for each.
