DAY ONE O Sacrament most Holy, O Sacrament divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Our Lady of the most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us.
St. Peter Julian, pray for us.
Peter Julian Eymard was born on 4 February 1811 in La Mure d’Isere near Grenoble in the French Alps, and was
baptised there the following day. The younger of only two surviving children of his parents, Madeleine and Julien, he
showed a great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament from his earliest years. As a small child, he took on the task of
ringing a bell through the streets of La Mure to announce that Mass time was near. This was indeed prophetic as his
whole life would eventually be dedicated to proclaiming Jesus’ Eucharistic Presence in the world and encouraging
devotion to Him.
AND YOU LITTLE CHILD, YOU SHALL BE CALLED PROPHET OF GOD THE MOST HIGH FOR YOU WILL GO
BEFORE THE LORD TO PREPARE THE WAY FOR HIM. TO GIVE TO THE PEOPLE KNOWLEDGE OF
SALVATION… (Luke 1:76-77).
St Peter Julian,
We pray that through your intercession and inspired by your example, people may be drawn to honour and join Jesus
in the Eucharistic celebration, and that those who have drifted away may once again find fullness of joy in His
Presence.
DAY TWO O Sacrament most Holy, O Sacrament divine, all praise and all
thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Our Lady of the most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us.
St. Peter Julian, pray for us.When St.
Peter Julian was still very young, his Father became seriously ill. The child went
missing one evening during this time, and his half-sister Marianne found him in the
parish church, nestled close to the Tabernacle. When she questioned him, as to
what he was doing there, he answered that he was closer to Jesus there and could
hear him better! This simple incident typified the child like devotion and hunger
for Jesus which was to be the main-stay of St. Peter Julian’s life and work. When
he tells us ‘Jesus is there, let us go to him’, he wants us all to listen to the word
of Jesus and to centre our lives on Him.
Mr. Julien Eymard, experienced a lot of sorrow in his life through the deaths of his
first wife and all but three of his children. All his hopes for the future of his oil-
press business were pinned on his son Peter Julian. Against this background, it is
perhaps easier to understand his vehement opposition when Peter Julian wished
to become a priest. The situation seemed to be impossible, but through his
persistent prayer and trust in God and Our Lady, one by one the obstacles (not
only parental opposition, but also ill-health and lack of education) were
overcome. Fr. Eymard was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Grenoble on 20th
July, 1834 having had to abandon his earlier hope of becoming an Oblate due to a
near fatal illness. He celebrated his first Mass at the Oblate shrine of Notre Dame
de L’Osier on 22nd July, 1834.
ASK AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU: SEARCH AND YOU WILL FIND; KNOCK AND THE
DOOR WILL BE OPENED TO YOU. FOR THE ONE WHO ASKS RECEIVES, THE ONE WHO
SEARCHES ALWAYS FINDS, THE ONE WHO KNOCKS WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE DOOR
OPENED TO HIM. (Matt. 7:7-8)
Fr. Emard’s eucharistic family began to grow rapidly from the foundation of the
Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament in 1856, the servants of the Blessed
Sacrament in 1858, the People’s Eucharistic League in 1859. The work of
Eucharistic evangelisation spread from Paris to Marseilles, Brussels and Angers. He
had one great dream however… to establish a Blessed Sacrament shrine in the
Cenacle in Jerusalem. In 1865 he travelled to Rome to seek permission for this
and while there went on retreat. during the retreat, he became aware of the
greatness of Christ’s gift of Self to each one of us, and of His Presence in the
Cenacle, not just in Jerusalem, but in every heart open ho Him. He considered
this to be a revolution in his spirituality; and indeed in the post-jansenist era in
which he lived, the revelation of a loving God was revolutionary. Graced with the
peace of this revolution, he could accept with less sadness, the disappointment of
the Jerusalem project.
Following his long retreat in Rome, Fr. Eymard continued to try to perfect in
himself and in those around him, the ‘Gift of Self’ to Jesus, to spread far and
wide the good news of His Presence in the world. His personal holiness and
dynamism drew many people to his way of life and many priests, religious and lay
people turned to him for spiritual direction on their journey to God. One incident
particularly sums up his spirituality. He wrote to a Servant of the Blessed
Sacrament saying that “Ifsomeone came to me telling me that he thinks of me in
his heart”, I would say to him “How is this possible?… have a respectful love for
those who represent God and render them filial obedience, but reserve your heart
for God. May it rest in Him. He will fill it.
IF ANYONE LOVES ME HE WILL KEEP MY WORD, AND MY FATHER WILL LOVE HIM
AND WE WILL COME TO HIM AND MAKE OUR HOME IN HIM. (john 14:23)
Throughout the many distinct phrases in his life, St. Peter Julian always drew
strength from the Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, and with this
strength he worked constantly to share with others both by his example and by his
preaching and writing, the joy which no one could take away, and to encourage
others to turn to Jesus for their strength also. His life was centred on the
Eucharist, and he himself became a Monstrance … an instrument of showing to the
reality of the Presence of Jesus among us. The Congregations and Association he
founded, and the Secular Institute he inspired, are a living reminder of his
teaching, and a continuing witness to the message he taught.
A MAN CAME SENT BY GOD. HIS NAME WAS JOHN. HE CAME AS A WITNESS. AS A
WITNESS TO SPEAK FOR THE LIGHT, SO THAT EVERYONE MIGHT BELIEVE THROUGH
HIM. HE WAS NOT THE LIGHT, ONLY A WITNESS TO SPEAK FOR THE LIGHT. (John
1:6-8)
Lord Jesus Christ, through Your grace, St. Peter Julian understood the Eucharist to
be Your Gift of Self to the world. May our prayers lead us to an ardent love of the
Eucharist so that, like St. Peter Julian, we may shine in the world with the
Radiance of Your Presence, a radiance that will silently say:
FIRST DAY
THE TITLE OF OUR LADY OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!
O Virgin Immaculate, Mother of Jesus and our tender Mother, we invoke thee under the title of Our
Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, because thou art the Mother of the Savior who lives in the
Eucharist, and because it was from thee that He took the Flesh and Blood with which He there feeds us!
We invoke thee under that title because, again, thou art the sovereign dispensatrix of all graces and,
consequently, of those contained in the august Eucharist, also, because thou didst first fulfill the duties of
the Eucharistic life, teaching us by thy example how to assist properly at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass,
how to communicate worthily, and how to visit frequently and piously the Most Blessed Sacrament.
V. Pray for us, O Virgin Immaculate, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament. R. That the Eucharistic
Kingdom of Jesus Christ may come among us!
LET US PRAY
Lord Jesus Christ, our King and our God, who having become Man to make us sharers in Thy Divinity,
art truly our Bread in the adorable Eucharist, grant, we beseech Thee, that in venerating so great a
Mystery, we may be mindful of the most sweet Virgin Mary, of whom Thou didst will to be conceived
by the operation of the Holy Ghost! Grant, also that we may imitate the worship that she rendered while
on earth to this most august Sacrament, so we may behold Thy Eucharistic Kingdom spread and flourish
throughout the whole world! O Thou who livest and reignest forever and ever! Amen.
O Virgin Mary, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the glory of Christians, the joy of the
universal Church, and the hope of the world, pray for us. Kindle in all the faithful a lively devotion to the
most Holy Eucharist, so that they may be worthy to receive Holy Communion every day. Our Lady of
the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us. Let us with Mary Immaculate adore, thank, supplicate, and
console the most sacred and beloved Eucharistic Heart of Jesus.
SECOND DAY
MARY AND THE HOLY MASS
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!
O Virgin Immaculate, after having been present at the death of thy Divine Son on Calvary, where thou
didst unite thy immense sorrow to the Redeemer?Ts sacrifice, thou didst frequently assist at the real,
though mysterious, renewal of that adorable sacrifice in the celebration of the Holy Mass. Teach us by
thy example to esteem as it deserves the divine action performed at the altar, and obtain for us the grace
to be able often, and even daily, to assist piously at the Holy Sacrifice.
THIRD DAY
MARY AND HOLY COMMUNION
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!
O Virgin Immaculate, thy Communions were the most fervent, the most holy that were ever made!
When thou didst possess thy Divine Son in thy breast, thou didst love Him with a love exceeding that of
any other creature soever for his God. Teach us to make Holy Communion the center of our life, and
may that life be spent in preparing us for so great an action and in thanking God for so inappreciable a
benefit!
FOURTH DAY
MARY AND THE REAL PRESENCE
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!
O Virgin Immaculate, who after the ascension of thy Divine Son, didst console thy exile on earth by thy
Real Presence of Jesus in the Sacrament, and didst spend before the tabernacle the greater part of thy
days and even thy nights, make us comprehend the treasure we possess on the altar. Inspire us to visit
often the God of Love in the Sacrament in which He abides to receive the homage that He deserves by
so many titles, and to guide, protect, and console us in this exile!
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!
O Virgin Immaculate, thou art our perfect Model in the service of the Divine Eucharist. With the most
lively faith and the most profound respect thou didst adore Jesus hidden under the sacramental veils.
After thy example, we desire to render to the Sacred Host all the honor due the Divinity and the glorified
Humanity of the Son of God made Man. We wish to maintain at all times in the holy place the modesty
and recollection becoming true adorers.
SIXTH DAY
MARY, THE MODEL OF THANKSGIVING
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!
O Virgin Immaculate, who didst return to Jesus so perfect Thanksgiving for the institution of the Divine
Eucharist and the ineffable Gift in which the Savior exhausted His power and the treasures of His Heart,
teach us to thank thy Divine Son for this great benefit, and especially to make our thanksgiving well
when we have had the happiness of receiving Him in Holy Communion.
SEVENTH DAY
MARY, THE MODEL OF REPARATION
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!
O Virgin Immaculate, thou didst adore thy Divine Son in His state of perpetual Victim, always
immolated on our altars, incessantly demanding, by His death, grace and mercy for sinners. We unite
with thy dolors and thy perfect reparation. We desire to accept our daily trials for love of Him, and with
thee to console Jesus for the ingratitude of men and the outrages He daily receives in the Blessed
Sacrament.
EIGHTH DAY
MARY, THE MODEL OF PRAYER
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!
O Virgin Immaculate, while the Apostles went to preach the Gospel, thou didst remain close to the
tabernacle, supplicating for them the goodness of the Savior, and thy prayer obtained for them the grace
to convert the world! Teach us to pray, above all, to pray near the tabernacle, where Jesus wills to abide
continually in order to hear our petitions. Teach us to pray for the extension of the Eucharistic kingdom,
for the salvation of the whole world, for the exaltation of the Holy Church, and most especially for the
sanctification of the clergy and the conversion of sinners.
Versicle, Response, and Prayer as on the first day.
NINTH DAY
MARY, THE DISPENSATRIX OF EUCHARISTIC GRACES
O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!
O Virgin Immaculate, Mother most loving and admirable Model of adorers of Jesus in the Blessed
Sacrament, thou art also the dispensatrix of the graces necessary to fulfill that great duty! Grant us, then,
we beseech thee, as the fruit of this novena, the virtues that will render our adoration less unworthy of
thy Divine Son. Teach us to honor so well this Mystery of mysteries that we may receive here below the
graces it contains, in order to enjoy in heaven the eternal life of which it is the pledge!
Hawaii Community
The Sacramentino Hawaii Community administers two parishes: Mary, Star of the Sea Parish in
Honolulu and St.
Joseph Parish in Hilo.
Mary, Star of the Sea Parish in the Diocese of Honolulu was administered by the Marist Fathers for 58
years, but they decided to give it up due to a lack of personnel. Bishop Francis Di Lorenzo of 15
Honolulu invited the American Province of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament to consider
taking over the Parish. It so happened that the American Province of the Congregation was also
experiencing a lack of personnel at the time, so it turned to the Philippine Province. In the end, it was
decided that the Philippine Province, in collaboration with the American Province, would take on the
responsibility of staffing the Parish. On August 25, 2004, four Sacramentinos (3 Filipinos and an
American) arrived in Honolulu and began the work of sharing the Congregation’s charism to make Star
of the Sea Parish a Eucharist-centered community. The Most Rev. Larry Silva, D.D., who succeeded
Bishop Di Lorenzo in the Diocese of Honolulu, formally entrusted Star of the Sea Parish to the
Philippine Province of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. He then installed Fr. Mark del
Rosario as its first Sacramentino parish priest on April 5, 2006.
Bishop Larry Silva, extended the invitation to POLA to take care of another parish, St. Joseph Parish.
The Parish officially came under the care of the Sacramentinos on July 1, 2009. Fr. Sammy Loterte was
installed as its first Sacramentino parish priest.
Uganda Community
In the 1960s until 1977, the American Province of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament had a
Community administering a parish in Masaka, Uganda. But due to the brutal regime of its former
president Idi Amin, they were compelled to leave and the Masaka House closed down. Almost twenty
years later, the Sacramentinos re-established their presence in Masaka with the help of the Superior
General at that time, Fr. Norman Pelletier.
The Masaka House personnel were volunteers from different SSS provinces; however, this arrangement
only worked for a few years. Thus, the General Team, headed by Fr. Fiorenzo Salvi, who succeeded Fr.
Pelletier, offered the care of Uganda to the American Province, who in turn had to decline due to a lack
of personnel. So the General Team turned to POLA.
During its APC meeting in October 1999, POLA made the decision to accept the General Team’s
invitation. Thus on February 4, 2000, a canonical decree was issued transferring Uganda from the
responsibility of the General Council to POLA. On May 24, 2000, four Filipino religious arrived in
Uganda and another followed on June 30. There were two independent SSS communities then in
Uganda, one in Masaka whose superior was Fr. Joseph Matitu while Fr. Melchiades Ssemakula† was
pastor of Kimaanya Parish, and Ggaba Community whose superior was Fr. Sebastian Luistro.
Later on, the Ggaba Community was closed down but a formation house, the Eymard Formation House,
under the Masaka Community, was opened in Walukuba, Jinja, for the students studying Philosophy.
Lasallian Center Community (De La Salle University- College of St. Benilde, Philippines)
From being regarded as a “satellite community” of the Provincialate Community, the Lasallian Center
was canonically erected as a local community on May 13, 2011 with the permission from Rome. The
first local community superior was Fr. Froilan Briones. Fr Dante Funelas is the current local superior .
There is a religious assigned to each of the following four Lasallian institutions, namely, De la Salle
Univesity, College of St. Benilde – Taft Avenue Campus; College of St Benilde – Angelo King
International Center Campus (AKIC), Arellano St. Corner Estrada St.; and College of St. Benilde –
School of Design and Arts (SDA) Campus, P. Ocampo St., Manila.
This was the first pastoral community founded not in a city by the Sacramentinos (although few years
after, Tabaco has been declared a city). TheMost Rev. Jose C. Sorra, D.D., Bishop of Legazpi, formally
welcomed the Sacramentinos at the Holy Family Shrine, which has Quasi-Parish status, on February 4,
1999. Under the Sacramentinos, the quasi-parish thrived, thus Bishop Sorra decided to revert it back to its
former status of a territorial parish as it had existed in 1970-1973. Fr. Arnel Martinez was its first
Sacramentino parish priest. Over the years, there were plenty of Sacramentino Priests and Brothers who
have been assigned and served in this pastoral community. In fact, developments have been very evident
both on the side of the parishioners’ participation in parish life (BECs have been organized) and on the
physical development – parish structures have been improved. The most recent, through the leadership of
Fr Junvic Diolata as the parish priest from 2011-2017, with the help of Fr Melchor Castaneda, Fr Conrad
Goulet, Fr Froilan Briones, Br Rey Acabado and the whole parishioners, friends and benefactors, the
parish building, adoration chapel and the rectory were all renovated. On August 22, 2016, the Holy
Family Parish Church was Blessed and Dedicated by His Excellency Most Reverend Joel Z. Baylon, DD,
Bishop of the Diocese of Legazpi.
Eucharistic Center: This serves as a residence for local and foreign diocesan seminarians studying
philosophy
And
Theology in the nearby universities and theological schools. The Center also offers accommodation to
young male laypersons studying in Metro Manila.
Bahay ni Eymard: Construction of this two-story building was completed in 2014. This is a facility to
house senior members of POLA who already need constant medical care. Though they are no longer
active in their ministry, but still they continue to be active in praying for the world and other particular
intentions or graces. Bros. John, Henry and
Rudy, who are staying at Bahay ni Eymard, take turns in praying before the Blessed Sacrament.
San Vicente Ferrer Quasi-Parish (Taguig City): This Quasi-Parish has come a long way from being a
simple chapel born out of the spirit of neighborliness among the first residents of Armor Village,
Barangay Southside, Makati (now Palar, Pinagsama, Taguig City), under the Diocese of Pasig.
The Most Rev. Mylo Hubert C. Vergara, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Pasig, elevated San Vicente
Ferrer Chapel to Quasi-Parish status on September 15, 2013.
In mid-2014, Bishop Vergara sent a formal invitation to the Province to take charge of San Vicente Ferrer
Quasi-Parish. The 2014 chapter decided to accept the invitation. Fr. Arnel Martinez was presented to the
clergy and lay faithful of the diocese of Pasig as the parish priest named for San Vicente Ferrer Quasi-
Parish on October 25, 2014, although it was decided to schedule the formal turnover on February 1, 2015,
to allow the quasi-parish to make the necessary preparations.
When February 1, 2015 arrived, Fr. Arnel, Bro. Reno and a number of parishioners started the day with
exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 5:30 a.m., which has become a regular practice in the quasiparish
church.
Sta. Cruz Quasi-parish (Surigao del Norte): After a period of discernment and preparation, POLA has
Informally taken over the administration of the Quasi-parish of Sta. Cruz (later will surely be renamed
San Pedro Calungsod Parish) on July 18, 2015 when the pioneering group composed of Fr. Willy, Fr.
Lennen and Bro. Ed M. arrived there. Fr. Provincial with Fr. Hermie (Consultor) endorsed the three
religious to the Diocese of Surigao represented by Fr. Bobby (chancellor). Then, the Quasi-parish of Sta.
Cruz was turned over to the SSS by the Chancellor in the presence of some lay representatives. The SSS
religious and the parish leaders will determine later the date of the formal turnover where more people
will be invited to witness the event.
The local Ordinary of Surigao del Norte, Bishop Antonieto Cabajog, DD, formally invited POLA to
establish an SSS presence in the Diocese of Surigao, which is located in the southern part of the
Philippines. The very reason for the invitation of the good bishop is for us to share our Eucharistic
charism in his diocese which we think is very reasonable for possible foundation.
The Sacramentinos were originally invited to administer Sacred Heart Parish; however, due to the long
wait to take over the parish, it was decided that they move to Brgy. Consolacion where NSVDR chapel is
located and there underwent immersion. Eventually, the Most Rev. Jesus Tuquib, D.D., then Archbishop
of Cagayan de Oro, elevated NSVDR Chapel to a Chaplaincy on April 25, 1999, and installed Fr. Exzur
Eballe as its first chaplain. The chaplaincy was elevated to parish church status in April 2008 and Fr.
Exzur was installed as the first parish priest of NSVDR Parish by the Most Rev. Antonio Ledesma, SJ,
D.D., who succeeded Archbishop Tuquib. Sacred Heart Parish was formally turned over to the
Sacramentinos on February 2, 2003 as a chapel, and Fr. Mark del Rosario was installed as chapel
administrator. On August 2, 2005, when it was elevated to a chaplaincy, Fr. Joel Lasutaz was appointed
by then Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Jesus Tuquib, D.D. as chaplain. On August 2, 2008, the chaplaincy
was elevated to a full-fledged Parish of the Sacred Heart, and Fr. Joel was installed as its first
Sacramentino parish priest and rector of the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Holy Eucharist by the Most Rev.
Antonio Ledesma, SJ, D.D.
