The emerging architecture for Smart Grid and Smart City IoT Applications -
RF Canopy have two different RF Networks Wi-SUN and LoRaWAN.

Wi-SUN PROTOCOL
It is a wireless communication technology designed for Utilities, Smart Cities & IoT. It is

LoRaWAN NETWORK
LoRa is a method for transmitting radio signals that uses a chirped, multi-symbol format to encode information. They
convert radio frequency to bits, without any need to write code to implement the radio system. LoRaWAN data
transmission and reception requires less power consumption thereby allowing shelf battery life of up to 10 years.

for collecting, controlling and monitoring smart meters. HES operates as a communication driver between
MDM (Meter Data Management) systems and measurement devices.

UK SMART METERING
SLS has played a crucial role in dealing with Smart Metering RF technology, equipment,
and devices under the smart DCC program of the UK government’s Smart Metering
network and infrastructure that connects over 99% of premises in the southern and
central regions of Great Britain.

EMULATOR
Double band emulators are used in smart metering, to support both GHz and
SubGHz RF bands. They emulate various devices such as Gas Smart Meter
Equipment (GSME), Electricity Smart Meter Equipment (ESME), Prepayment Meter
Interface Device (PPMID), In-Home Display (IHD) and Auxiliary Load Control
Switch (ALCS).
