General Purpose: To Inform the people depression

Specific Purpose: To inform the people how to cope and live with depression

Thesis: Depression is a psychological state that is hard to cure, hard to live with, and hard to endure.

It is important to know what causes it, what impact it makes on others around a person with
depression, and the solution to treating the illness.

1. Introduction

1. Attention Getter: Did you know that depression is a common


disease worldwide, and it is estimated that it affects more than
three hundred million people and in the worst case it can lead to
suicide? Each year about eight hundred thousand people commit
suicide, and suicide is the second cause of death in the age group
of fifteen to twenty-nine years.

1. Reason to Listen: many people don't know how to deal with


depression, they don't even know how serious this is

1. Thesis Statement: Today I will talk about depression. A lot of


college students suffers from depression daily. The stress from
being in an unfamiliar environment, working and going to school at
the same time can be a very heavy load to deal with.

1. Credibility Statement: Depression negatively affects a person


mentally. A sad feeling is the most common and most widely
known symptom of depression, but it’s not the only symptom.
Another symptom is a feeling of worthlessness, which cause
thoughts that you have no purpose, and that your life is not
valuable.

1. Depression is a psychological state that is hard to cure, hard to live with, and hard to endure.
2. Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that
negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act.
3. Depression is a mood disorder that involves a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of
interest. It is different from the mood fluctuations that people regularly experience as a part of
life.

● difficulty sleeping through the night
● decreased energy, greater fatigue, changes in appetite, weight changes
● fatigue

● difficulty concentrating on schoolwork

● restlessness, such as an inability to sit stil

● avoiding social situations and activities that they used to enjoy

and congnitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
● Drug treatment: A doctor may prescribe antidepressants.
● Nutrition: Eating well is important for both your physical and mental health
● Sleep: Sleep has a strong effect on mood. When you don’t get enough sleep, your depression
symptoms will be worse. Sleep deprivation exacerbates irritability, moodiness, sadness, and
fatigue.

some where they have symptoms in common.

manage from day to day and interferes with study, work and relationships.

1. Depression is an extremely complex disease. No one knows exactly what causes it, but it can
occur for a variety of reasons. Some people experience depression during a serious medical
illness. Others may have depression with life changes such as a move or the death of a loved
one. Still others have a family history of depression.

1. There are different types of depression. The symptoms for each can range from relatively
minor through to severe.

1. Major depression affects about 6.7% of the U.S. population over age 18, according to the
National Institute of Mental Health. Overall, between 20% and 25% of adults may suffer an
episode of major depression at some point during their lifetime. Major depression also affects
older adults, teens , and children, but frequently goes undiagnosed and untreated in these
populations

1. Restate thesis: believe is caused mainly by imbalances in certain chemicals within your brain
called neurotransmitters. Some experts are even starting to frame depression as a systemic
disease.

depression is a serious problem and it is very common these days.2
