Competency Statement II

To advance physical and intellectual compentence

Physical

I ensure that my classroom daily activities support my children’s physical development. The children in
my class, have the opportunity to go outside on the playground, if weather permits, or to the gross
motor room incase of inclement weather. They are also encouraged to dance during movement time and
free choice.

Cognitive

In my classroom I provide my children with many opportunities to explore their growing cognitive
skills. The activities provided allow the children to build on skills they have already learned, while
providing new challenges to expand their learning. They are allowed to manipulate a variety of
materials and explore different methods of problem solving throughout the day.

Communication

In my classroom I provide many opportunities for open communication and development of early
literacy skills. During circle time, each child has the opportunity to ask questions and talk about
something. The children are also given opportunities to draw letters and or write throughout the day.

Creative

In my classroom there are multiple areas where the children are encouraged to explore their creativity
in different ways. They read in groups of their own choosing to make up stories with the different
pictures in the book. They are encouraged to use their imagination throughout the day no matter what
area we are exploring.

CS II-a

My activity of pompom sorting for fine motor skills promotes the child’s physical
development by allowing them to work on their grip and pinching. While sorting bugs by color,
they will also be able to be at play while learning and developing vital skills. It is very important
that the children don’t feel as if they are being assessed while developing skills necessary to
move onto the next milestone.

CS II-b
My activity of Painting a cupcake promotes cognitive development by enhancing their
knowledge of multiple subjects, such as math and art. It allows the children to explore their
creativity while realizing symmetry and how colors mix. This is an activity that the children can
do largely on their own and will give them a feeling of pride in their work.
CS II-c

My activity entitled My Imagination aids in the children’s creative development in


allowing them to explore what is going on in their head without restraints. They will be
encouraged to draw as much or as little as they want. The project will be completely of the
children’s own making. They will be asked to tell the teacher what they drew which will help
them put their feelings and thoughts into word.
