English Placement Exam

Misr International University (MIU) welcomes you and wishes you all the best in your future
university life.

The English Placement Exam (EPE) aims at assessing your proficiency in English Language for the
purpose of placing you in the appropriate level of English at the university.

The EPE is divided into three sections: Writing, Reading Comprehension and Oral. Your score is
composed of the cumulative grade of the three sections.

Section One - Essay Writing - (30 Minutes)

This section of the exam gives you a chance to show your ability to write grammatically correct and
well-organized ideas on a given topic. You will be given 30 MINUTES to write on ONE given
topic.
Sample Topic
Many people believe that poverty is the main cause of committing crimes. What is your opinion?
Discuss giving reasons and examples.

Section Two - Reading Comprehension - (15 Minutes)

This section is designed to measure your ability to understand short reading passages from a variety
of fields.
For this section, you will be given a passage to read & write, IN YOUR OWN WORDS, THE
MAIN IDEAS included.

Section Three - Oral Exam - (10 Minutes)

This section of the exam measures your speaking ability in English. It is an individual interview
that takes between five and ten minutes for each student.
