OPTIMIZE TITLES & DESCRIPTIONS

What does this mean?
■ Your job title should contain relevant keywords
■ This counts irrespective of the “real” title, as long as the
description is accurate and understandable
■ The job description should also contain as many keywords
as possible

How do I do it?
✔ Pick the decisive keywords for your targeted position, title & job
description
✔ Adapt your job title and description for it to contain as many
keywords as possible
✔ Keywords can be of value in other areas outside of titles, for
example, in your headline, or in the skills section

Why is this helpful?

✔ The keywords in your titles show up as so-called H3 tags
✔ The more keywords and the more prominent they are, the higher
your search ranking

SKILLS LIKE CHAMPIGNONS

■ If you don’t manage your skills, they will manage themselves
■ Delete any skill that is duplicated or simply not core
■ If you see any skill missing, add it yourself. But remember, they are
worth only if “+1’d”
■ Pick the really important ones and elevate them to 1, 2 & 3
■ Be careful with mixing languages, here you have no filter

Manage the recommendations you received
■ In the “Recommendations” area, you can see all recommendations
you’ve received to date
■ Click on “Manage” and search the ones you want to publish
■ It is great to have a lot of recommendations. Choose and prioritize
those that best highlight your relevant strengths and qualities as
well as those from the most credible or relevant endorsers

Ask for recommendations

■ Should you not have any recommendation for a role,
ask your network for one
■ Write specific requests, so that people can concretely respond
to your needs
■ Never write the recommendation “in their name”!
■ Choose if you want your recommendations
to be seen on your profile

Write recommendations
■ Take a few minutes to help your contacts,
writing recommendations for them
■ Be specific and honest
