PART III : EXECUTION

A. EXAMINATION

1. Examine surfaces for conditions that would adversely affect execution. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory
conditions are corrected. Beginning of execution will constitute acceptance of conditions.
2. Ensure surfaces are reasonably smooth and free of holes, cracks or projections that might be detrimental to
successful installation.
3. Verify that items penetrating waterproofing system are securely installed.
4. Verify that masonry joints are struck flush with face of unit.

B. PREPARATION

1. Protect adjacent surfaces not designated to receive waterproofing.

2. Clean and prepare surfaces in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
3. Seal cracks and joints in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Use proper depth-width ratio recommended
by sealant manufacturer.
4. Remove sharp projections, fins, and loose material. Remove form ties to 18-mm minimum behind face or wall. Fill
holes, voids, and honeycomb areas flush with concrete patching compound or cement mortar.
5. Seal penetrations with mastic.
6. Provide fillet or cant at junction of vertical and horizontal surfaces using cast-in-place cement mortar in
configuration acceptable to membrane manufacturer

C. WATERPROOFING INSTALLATION

1. Install products using skilled workmen in accordance with manufacturer’s printed instructions.
2. Extend membrane over footing and down face 15-cm minimum, except terminate at point 30cm below floor slab of
protected space where footings are at greater depth.
3. Apply primer at rate indicated by manufacturer. Install only as much primer as can be covered in same day.
4. Prior to placing full membrane, provide membrane strips at inside corners, outside corners, ad working joints.
Center strips along axis of corner and joint.
5. Install sheet with edges and ends overlapped at dimensions recommended by manufacturer.
6. Remove release paper layer. Roll out surface with mechanical roller to encourage full contact bond.
7. Completely bond sheet to substrate, except those areas directly over or within 7.5 cm of working cracks or
expansion joints.
8. Place uniform beads of mastic joint edges at locations recommended by manufacturer.
9. Seal perimeter ends and edges to adjoining surfaces.
10. Seal items penetrating membrane with flashing membrane material and liquid membrane. Ensuring positive seal
with membrane and penetrating member.

D. PROTECTION BOARD SCREED

Install protection screed of 25-mm thickness over membrane and retain in place in accordance with manufacturer’s
instructions

E. PROTECTION BOARD

Install polystyrene board on vertical wall of basement and water tank
