3D CAD
 3D CAD, or three-dimensional computer-aided design, is a technology for design and
technical documentation, which replaces manual drafting with an automated process.
 It is used to create functional, virtual prototypes of three-dimensional objects.
 With 3D CAD, designers can dynamically create and modify every detail of a
product, part or assembly.

FUSION 360
 Fusion 360 is a cloud-based 3D modeling, CAD, CAM, CAE, and PCB software
platform for product design and manufacturing.
 Design and engineer products to ensure aesthetics, form, fit, and function.
 Reduce the impact of design, engineering, and PCB changes and ensure
manufacturability with simulation and generative design tools.
 Directly edit existing features or model fixtures with the only truly integrated CAD +
CAM software tool

SIMULATION IN FUSION 360

 Simulation helps designers and engineers to make the right design decisions, improve
product functionality, and identify critical areas in the design.
 It allows you to virtually test the design.
 It is used to understand how parts respond to motion, impacts, and cyclical loads.
 There are many types of simulation.
 Simulation is very important before 3D printing of the design.
Process-
• Go to create.
• Click on the sketch and select the front plane.
• Select line tool from creating.
• Draw two lines of 100mm at a right angle i.e., reverse L shape. Give it a thickness of
5mm.
• Extrude it up to 15mm.
• Create 3 holes in the shape on the left of the plane.
• Fillet the inner edge.
• Click on Finish sketch.
• Select Appearance from Modify. Select “steel” from the options.
• Now select Simulation.
• Select “static stress” and click on “create study”.
• Now using “constraints” lock the two holes and the side of the holes.
• Apply load on the bracket with specific force (100, 1000, 1200).
• Click on “Results”. Save after clicking on “solve and study”.
• After getting the results, click on close. You can see the minimum and maximum
factors of safety.

2 1000 N 0.3499

3 1200 N 0.294

Table 1: Force applied on target surface vs Factor of safety.

According to Table 1, Force is inversely proportional to the Factor of safety; when force
increases, the factor of safety will decrease. A minimum safety factor was attained in
connecting the edge of two components because the model has two different components.
