Saudi Arabia Method Statement CONCRETE PAVING WORKS MS-1106-0055 Rev. 00 6 EXECUTION: This Method Statement describes the steps to be taken and sequence of events necessary to enable satisfactory completion of each activity. The following work sequences are as follows: ‘+ Subgrade Preparation: ~ Areas to be paved should be free of roots, rash andlor other foreign materials. = Stripping, clearing and grubbing shall be performed that existing foundations will be of safe manner. ~ Replaced propery with frm sollto all areas with loose soll - The top 150mm of any area to receive fil shall be scarified and re-compacted to the requirement of SAES-A-1 14: Excavation & Backfil ‘© FillPlacement &Compaction: = Compacting shall begin only after the soil or backfil has been propery placed and the material tp be compacted is at te proper moisture content. = Compaction shall be performed with equipment compatible wit sol type. - Fill material shall be placed in lits not exceeding 200mm in loose depth for machine operated compaction. Also, fil material shall be placed in lits not exceeding 100mm in loose depth for hand or manual operated compaction. Other lit thickness may be approved by Saudi Aramco representative based on field test section using the intended compaction equipment. - Bedding and backiil for pipeline and utlity trenches shall conform to SAES-L-450, SAES-L-460 ‘or SAES-S-070 as appropriate. - For areas near to static foundations with loads over 320 KPA and foundations for vibrating ‘equipment and concrete pavement subgrades, fil should be compacted to 85% relative density for cohesionless soll or 95% of the maximum density as determined by ASTM D 1557 for cohesive materials, 70% of relaive density will be used in cohesionless sol. When the backfill ‘material cannot clearly be classified as cohesive or cohesionless both relative density and proctor density test must be performed. The backfil shall then be compacted to the greater density. All other fil shall be compacted to a density equal fo that shown on IFC Drawings or equal o that ofthe adjacent in-situ material as appropriate. = The moisture content of the material being compacted shall be 3%, plus or minus, of the optimum moisture content as determined by ASTM 01557. However, when ASTM D4253/ ASTM D4254 isthe appropriate test procedures, there is no applicable moisture content. = Compaction by water jetting or flooding is not permitted for most fil material. However, flooding ‘may be used if the fil material is cohesionless freely draining sand. = Slopes greater than 20% or (1H:5V) is not permitted to be compacted. = Compacted surfaces of fil or backfll shall be fnished graded to the cross sections, lines, ‘grades and elevations as indicated on the IFC Drawings. ~All compaction testing as to gradation, density and moisture control tests shall be performed at the following minimum frequencies: one standard sieve analysis and modifed proctor tess. - In place density and moisture content of sois shall be determined by sand-cone method, nuclear method, rubber balloon method or drive cylinder method. Acceptance testing of in-place density and moisture content (feld density testing) on compacted fil shall be performed at one test per 180 square meters for ezch lift We SK Engineering & ee a ners SK Esc i Saudi Arabia ‘Method Statement-CONCRETE PAVING WORKS MS-1106-0055 Rev. 00 - As a minimum, at least one in-place density test must be performed on every lit of fil and further placement shall not be allowed until the required density has been achieved. The ‘number of test shal Increase if a visual inspection determines that the moisture content not Uniform or if the compacting effort is variable and not considered sufficient to attain the specified density = The project inspection representative may approve a decrease in the number of tests once a compaction procedure has proven to meet compaction requirements. ~ For base course, surface areas will be prepared in accordance with IFC Drawings and as per ‘SAES-Q-006 andlor any relevant requirements as per project specification. Disposal of Excess Materials: = Allexcess and unsatisfactory materials for use as fl or backfil shall immediately be disposed of atlocation designated by Saudi Aramco Representative. Suney ‘and Lay-out: ‘Secure survey instruments. = Set and establish data and references as indicated in the IFC drawings and if displaced andor lost, immediately replace it thru the approval of concerned personnel, = Ensure all survey instruments are in a current state of calibration and being used in a prescribed manner. = The competent surveyor wil then establish or lay-out the area to be paved and interpret as per IFC drawings in all aspects as to references, elevations, sequences for paving, location of joints, the highest and iowest profle for paving. ~The surveyor wil also keep his record in all his survey data for future references. Formworks & Placement of Polyethylene Sheets: = Polyethylene sheets of approved type shal be lad upon the whole area where concrete paving shall be casted - Forms shall be made of plywood and of wooden supports and shall be correctly set for the entire perimeter of concrete paving. The execution for the placement and installation of formworks shall be supervised by civil supervisor in accordance with acceptable method of installation. - _ Formworks shall be strong enough to withstand external as well as internal pressures. ~ Formworks shall be designed in a manner that it can easily be striped and dismantied without causing damage to concrete. ~ Removal and stripping of forms shall be done and carried out in accordance wit the Project Concrete Specifications. Protruding nails, wires, les and other form of accessories shall be taken out immediately as a safely precautionary measure. Paement of Welded Wire Febic (WWF) and ther reinforcements: Placement of welded wire fabric and other embedded items shall commence after the ‘completion of formworks. WWF shall be placed with a cover as per IFC Drawings. = Minimum lap splices shall be 1 % mesh plus extension of wire uniess noted otherwise in IFC Drawings.
