Analysis of Student’s Dilemma using IRAC Methodology

I (Issue)
What should Helen do with the exam paper that she has from her friend, will she use it in order
to gain summa cum laude and violate ethical rules or she keep follow the ethics rules?

R (Rule)
Every individual character needs ethics as their moral rules. These rules will help them to define
something good or bad. In this situation there are two main moral values that can help Helen
when making decision, which is integrity and honesty. With these moral values it is clear that
Helen should not use the exam paper and do the test fair to others students in her class. Because
cheating and lying is contrary to ethical regulations.

A (Analysis)
There are two possible decisions that Helen can make. First, that if Helen uses the exam paper
from her friend and break the ethical rules. With this decision, Helen will face bigger
consequences. If she gets caught, she will break the trust of her professor and the company where
she will work which is Big & Apple LLC or even, she could have been drop out from her
campus without summa cum laude. It can affect her future because it will ruin her image and
maybe she will have a hard time getting a job because many company prioritize the character of
their employee. Not only that, it also could cause her to be ostracized by her friends because of
the unfairness. This will give bad impact to her future, career, and relationship to others. Once a
person caught as a cheater is hard to gain back other people's beliefs because that person has lost
the respect of others.
Second, that if Helen does the exam without the paper that her friend gives, she follows the rules.
With this decision, she will not face any consequences. Maybe she will not receive the summa
cum laude but there is still possibility if she tries to study harder. But, with this decision
whatever the score is in the end it is her real score that she got from her real hard work without
any guilty.

C (Conclusion)
In conclusion, as an ethical student Helen should choose the second decision. She should not
break ethical rules that she already has. Besides, there are many consequences that will harm her
own good and future if she decides to cheat for the exam. So, it is better to believe in herself and
do the exam by herself because even with this decision she still have the possibility to receive the
summa cum laude.
