Standard Operating Procedure


Indoor / Outdoor Housekeeping and Laundry
1. Purpose
1.1 Room attendants play an important role in the organization because of their visibility,
their guest contact, and their responsibility for clean, hygienic and comfortable rooms. All of
these convey a critical message to guests. Room Boy is responsible for the hygiene, safety,
maintenance, and appearance of your areas. The housekeeping team plays a greater role
than any other department in ensuring that the room’s product meets the conditions that
guests need and expect.

Housekeeping employees are required to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and
a professional appearance because of their role in servicing guest bedrooms, and because
of their visibility.

Housekeeping’s main role is to preserve the facilities’ interior, fabrics, and furniture.
Planning, men management, recruitment, and training as per client expectations follow,
along with cost control and record keeping.

1.2 Process

Rooms

Daily Duties:

 Put on your gloves.


 Prepare your cleaning material, chemicals, and equipment.
 Knock the three times and enter the room.
 Turn on all lights, lamps, radio, TV and air conditioner /fans/ heaters to ensure they are
working and set correctly. Note what must be reported to maintenance, and replace light
bulbs, as required.
 Open curtains, lace curtains and windows to allow air circulation, and check curtain cords
and hooks. Check the windows for breakage and dirt. Shake curtains gently to dislodge dirt
or possible insects.

 Prepare the room for cleaning.


 Remove trash and linen and spray the bathroom.
 Make the beds – check whether the sheets are torn, stained or other. Change the sheets if
necessary and after change of occupancy.
 Check and place towels, change them if necessary or after change of occupancy.
 Empty all trash bins and put new trash bags if necessary.
 Dust and clean all surfaces including lamps and TV sets.
 Clean and dry shower & floors.
 Clean shower walls and clean stains on shower door/curtain.
 Clean toilet bowl and the inside of the lip, rinse and dry the seat and the external part of the bowl.
 Provide new toilet paper if necessary, making sure there are always two extra (2) rolls.
 Check and refill soap dispenser on the wash basin and/or shower if necessary.
 Clean mirrors, wash basin and surroundings.
 Inform the supervisor of any maintenance elements and/or defects.
 Collect wash-house bags.
 Check and replenish air fresheners.

Weekly Duties:

 Change all sheets and towels once a week.


 Check refrigerator residual water tray and clean when necessary.
 Clean windows, inside and outside.
 Turn the mattress at least once a week and after change of occupancy.

Monthly Duties:

 Clean sofas/armchairs and bedside tables.


 Dust ceiling and walls.
 Dust top part of wardrobes.

Annual Duties:

 Wash and Air/Sun Dry mattresses, blankets & pillows.

Offices

Office areas shall be cleaned during the day. Time for cleaning will be agreed with client on
the rig site.

Daily Duties:

 Empty all trash cans and replace trash bags if necessary.


 Dust and polish all surfaces of office furniture.
 Dust and clean all telephone sets.
 Sweep and mop all floors.
 Clean mirrors, wash-basins and toilets (3 times a day & as necessary during office hours).
 Supply new toilet paper and soap in dispensers.
 Clean toilet bowl and the inside of the lip, wash and dry the seat and the external part of the bowl.
 Check and replenish air freshener when necessary.
 Do not, under any circumstances, touch computer equipment.
 Notify the Supervisor of any maintenance item and/or defect.

Weekly Duties:

 Dust all frames.


 Clean windows, inside and outside.
 Remove dust from ceilings.
 Clean Refrigerators’ shelves, drawers and exterior.

Mess and Recreation Area

Daily Duties:

 Put books in order and remove all stray books, magazines, newspapers, etc.
 Clean and polish the bars and shelves.
 Clean and polish the tables for the cold buffet and the service.
 Empty all trash cans and replace trash bags.
 Dust and polish all surfaces, including lamp shades, tables and TV sets.
 Sweep and mop all floors.
 Clean mirrors, wash-basins and surroundings.

 Supply new toilet paper and soap in dispensers.


 Clean toilet bowl and the inside of the lip, wash and dry the seat and the external part of the bowl.
 Never touch computer equipment.
 Notify the supervisor any maintenance item and/or defect.
 Check and replenish air fresheners

Weekly Duties:

 Dust all frames.


 Clean windows, inside and outside.
 Dust ceilings.
 Clean Refrigerators’ shelves, drawers and exterior.

Bi-annual Duties:

 Wash and put curtains back in place.

Kitchen

Daily Duties:

 Wash, dry and clean all the kitchen equipment and accessories.
 Wash, dry and put in order all kitchen utensils, glasses and cutlery.
 Empty all trash cans and replace trash bags.
 Dust and polish all surfaces.
 Sweep, wash and polish all floors.
 Clean mirrors, WC closets, wash-basins and surroundings.
 Replace all dish-cloths and others by clean ones.
 Supply new paper for wash-basins and soap in dispensers.
 Clean toilet bowl and the inside of the lip, wash and dry the seat and the external part of the bowl.
 Clean grease and residue collectors of sinks, etc.
 Clean all cooking surfaces and canopy free of grease.
 Notify the supervisor any maintenance item and/or defect.

Weekly Duties:

 Wash and clean all shelves.


 Clean windows, inside and outside.
 Clean all cooking surfaces and canopy free of grease.
 Dust ceilings.

Monthly Duties:

 Wash floors, walls, ceilings and shelves of the coolers

Quarterly Duties:

 Defrost and clean refrigerators and deep-freezers.

External Areas

Disinfection, Extermination of rats and control of any noxious animals:

 Disinfecting, clearing of rats and controlling the proliferation of animals & insects in all the buildings
and their close environment every three (3) months or upon COMPANY’s request with products
approved by the COMPANY.

Laundry Services:

 All products used shall be approved by client.


 Any defect in laundry machines shall be reported immediately for maintenance.
 Working clothes should be washed separately from casual clothes.
 Temperature and washing powder should be used properly and according to the requirement to
avoid damaging clothes, linens etc.

2. Scope

This policy pertains to interior and outdoor areas of camp and is intended for housekeeping and
grounds keeping staff, their leads and the compound supervisor for enforcement.

3. Prerequisites

Consumables requisition forms; staff time sheets and company HSE code are an intrinsic part of
Housekeeping, grounds keeping and laundry operations.

Detailed laundry system guidelines covering pick up, drop off, washing, drying and return.

4. Responsibilities

This SOP is intended to identify responsibilities and operating procedures for housekeeping,
grounds keeping and laundry team members.

5. Procedure

Housekeeping procedures detailed above (1.2 Process).

Laundry procedural steps consist of:

 Tagging all laundry items to be collected with individual piece by piece serial numbers on a
day to day basis.

 Recording individual cabin’s laundry in a laundry collection and return form.

 Transporting to laundry room in laundry bags identified with cabin ref. numbers.

 Return to cabins respectively when clean.
