Objective/Course Outcome: The objective of this subject is to have a detailed understanding of the technologies involved in the Intelligent Transportation Systems Course Outcome: Through this course, one will be exposed to various advanced functionalities of the modern-day Vehicle which targets higher safety, better communications and more efficient operation. The concepts taught about functionalities of modules such as ADAS, Vehicle communication systems, traffic management, smart charging, etcare witnessing tremendous focus and growth in the industrial as well as research organizations. These concepts and knowledge will empower students to design and suggest advanced infrastructure required for various conditions. Hence, such studies will develop skillsets among students who can get relevant jobs or do further research towards improvements of such technologies which have huge demand.
7. Syllabus and reference books:
Syllabus: Intelligent Transportation System is essential to the understanding of the intelligent processes that drive sophisticated functions of the automotive systems. Through this course one will gain knowledge about the various intelligent functions that optimize the operation of vehicles, improve quicker and better communication between modules within and outside the vehicle. For example, this course will also describe essential traffic aware and drive behaviour aware functionalities which improve the safety and comfort of not only the drivers but also the pedestrians who will be affected by the operation of the vehicle. Further, transportation infrastructure requirements and details are also covered. 9. Names of the faculty members of the Department/Centers/School who have the
necessary expertise and will be willing to teach the subject: Somnath Sengupta (ATDC), Nirmalya Ghosh(EE), Sandip Chakraborty(CSE), Aurobinda Routray(EE), Siddhartha Mukhopadhyay(EE) Do the contents of the subject have an overlap with any other subject offered in the Institute? Yes 5 % with: “Telecommunications Network Planning and Management”(TE61004). Since this course is an application (to vehicles) oriented course and has topics such as “In-vehicle Computing and Communication” or “Vehicle Networks,V2X and Cloud Computing” which are based on the fundamentals of communication network and network management, or network management protocols, there is a small conceptual overlap. However, this kind of overlap with few topics of the proposed course is not direct in nature but in terms of referral to some fundamental concepts presented in the TE61004 course to derive the technologies towards the application in modern vehicles. So, the overlap is not significant.
