EFB MANUAL 1/14 06/10/23 Rev 5

INTRODUCTION
The electronic flight bag (EFB) is an electronic information management device that helps pilots
performing flight management tasks easier.
A Class-1 device (standard commercial-off-the-shelf COTS equipment) is fully simulated in Fly the Maddog
X, it hosts Type-A (i.e. document viewer) and Type-B (i.e. electronic charts) applications (apps); in
addition, an app to automate take-off/landing performance calculations is also installed.

GENERAL
The EFB in Fly the Maddog X is battery powered, it can be used regardless of the aircraft power status.
A complete charge lasts approximately 9 hours, depending on flight mode being activated or not; when
loading the aircraft, the EFB will always be at full charge.
To switch the EFB ON or OFF, press and hold the “home” button for a few seconds.

In this EFB version, there are 5 available apps:

- Setup: the EFB configuration module.
- Performance: this app has been developed to automate take-off/landing performance
calculations.
- Weight & Balance: this app allows weight and fuel management: it’s also capable of importing
OFP files (Simbrief or PFPX generated) and set internal weights/fuel/pax figures in real-time
within the simulator, and in sync with GSX.
- Electronic Flight Folder: displays all the relevant information of the flight after importing an OFP
file.
- Electronic Aircraft Technical Log: This app, only available when the realistic mode is enabled in
the load manager – simulator options tab, is intended for showing the aircraft technical log,
reporting aircraft issues, and requiring maintenance actions if needed.
- Documents. The app contains the following documentation: Normal checklist, Cold weather
operation checklist, Abnormal/Emergency procedures, and AOM.
- Aircraft Services: Allows to open/close all the aircraft doors and stair, start refueling, de-ice
operation and PAX boarding/unboarding.

Navigating is simple, as you can expect from a real tablet: to close an app or go back, simply press the
"home" button. Toggling between multiple options (i.e. performance data) is achieved by clicking
left/right over the data field while, clicking on an empty data field that needs user input brings, the
keyboard overlay. To hide the keyboard overlay, click in any part of the screen.
A white upward/downward arrow is displayed on the top/bottom right corner when multi-pages
documents are shown, to jump pages.

There are two independent EFBs, positioned on CM1 and CM2 sides. A right click on the hotspot shown
below hides/shows the EFB. The same hotspot can be found on CM2 side, and it’s used with the same
criteria. Please check the Quick Guide on how to configure the mouse in MSFS for the Maddog.

SETUP

- Flight mode: this button sets the flight mode ON/OFF. Flight mode must be switched ON during
the before start, and OFF after landing.
- Brightness: Drag the slider to control screen brightness.
- Night mode: Changes the color scheme to adapt the EFB for night flying.
The setup page can also be triggered clicking on the signal strength icon on the top right corner.

PERFORMANCE
The performance app is a powerful tool to automate takeoff/landing calculations.
If you press the CALC button without entering the weight data, you get the regulated takeoff weight
performance limited. It's a quick and dirty way to check if you have any takeoff performance limitation.

WEIGHT AND BALANCE

This app has been designed to completely bypass the corresponding load manager page; a valid OFP must
be imported for the app to show the weights/fuel data, but if you already imported one from the
electronic flight folder app you will see all sections already populated, without the need to edit anything
unless you see any “red fields” that need to be corrected with balancing.

If you press the Import OFP button, an OFP selection dialog window is shown.

NOTE: If the automatically retrieve of the latest SimBrief OFP is enabled, an extra button Simbrief OFPis
displayed to connect to SimBrief server and download the latest OFP.

DC 9/80
EFB MANUAL 7/14 06/10/23 Rev 5

OFP file populates all weight figures. You will still oversee setting the C.G. balance as appropriate.

If you don't use Simbrief/PFPX to generate the OFP file, plan the flight with the load manager and have
the EFB activated, it'll be loaded in the electronic flight folder directly.

If you want to make last minute changes, i.e. top up your fuel prior departure, adjust the Block Fuel and
request refueling service again; remember also to send your revised fuel docket message via ACARS.

ELECTRONIC FLIGHT FOLDER

The electronic flight folder app is used to display relevant information of the OFP, split into different
sections. A valid OFP must be imported for the app to show the flight folder, but if you already imported
one from the weight and balance app, you will see all sections populated.

As stated in the Fly the Maddog X Quick Guide.pdf document, the OFP file is an automatically generated
txt file, either by our fuel/planner route integrated in the load manager or exported via PFPX/Simbrief.

There is a new PFPX template file included in this release to enable the electronic flight folder app
visualization: go to your %documents%\Maddog X Files\Redist folder, copy the “MaddogX ACARS.txt” file
to your C:\Users\Public\Documents\PFPX Data\FlightplanTemplates folder, overwriting if needed.

Simbrief is already capable of generating the new OFP file format.

The default “LIDO” layout has the correct sections inserted. However, if using a different layout (i.e. BAW,
EZY), the sections might be labelled differently or some might be missing. Every OFP layout is organized
differently and this is unavoidable, but at the very least they should all have OFP and Weather/NOTAM
relevant sections.

The only exception is using "UAL 18" format: no OFP will be included, as this format cannot be translated
into text. In this case the user will see "Unsupported OFP layout (UAL 2018)" in the EFB.

ELECTRONIC AIRCRAFT TECHNICAL LOG

The electronic flight folder app includes 4 pages:

STATUS
A general overview of the aircraft status, with the capability of requesting maintenance actions if needed.

Once you request an action to be performed on the ground prior to departure, the message is sent to the
maintenance center. The action is then performed, provided the main door is opened to allow the
engineer access on board; if you send a request once airborne (the EFB is in flight mode), the request is
queued and sent upon switching the flight mode OFF. The needed action is then performed upon opening
the main door.

REPORT MALFUNCTION
When experiencing a failure, a new malfunction report can be added in the electronic technical log
selecting the corresponding item from the list and adding it. Drag the list to search for the desired failure.
This action adds automatically a new maintenance request in the “status” page. On the next flight, the
failure will be fixed (if possible), or added to the deferred defects list in the EFB and in the technical log
in load manager. If appliable, an INOP sticker will be placed in the cockpit according to MEL for deferred
systems.

After a cycle, a transit check is added and queued in the status page: after requesting the transit
check, the following maintenance actions are performed:
- Oil and hydraulic fluid refill (if appliable)
- Failures check with automatic fixing or deferral of the system, depending on if the failure
is dispatchable in MEL for the next leg or not
- MEL expired items check and fixing if needed.
