How does one arrive at the requirement of a
Tender purpose GA??
Consider an upcoming project such as a new airport construction. Apart from the
civil related construction at the site, there will be requirement of electrical power
supply distribution for different functions such as lighting, AC, escalator, conveyer
belt ete.
The electricity board will provide supply at one location for this new airport.
From thereon, the supply needs to be provided to the necessary installations so
that it can be controlled and distributed safely within the premise for each of the
pre-determined functionality.
Thus, the architect prepares the drawing for the project and depicts the various
buildings and spaces for the specific functions. Space for the main supply room is
also identified. Similarly, all the buildings / utility areas required as per the project
are depicted in the drawing. In the detailed drawing for each of the utilities, various

points for outlets of power is marked based on the requirements - Air conditioning,
elevators, lighting, exhausts, escalators, scanning machines, belt conveyors, water
pumps, etc.
Based on the rating of equipments to be installed for proper performance, the
total load is calculated. This gives rise to requirement of a switchboard to
handle the part of supplies for a certain area.
Similarly, there are multiple such requirements worked out for the entire project
A tender is then floated for obtaining quotes for the entire package.
Switchboard manufacturers desiring to participate, study the requirements and
prepare their quotations along with the tender purpose layout drawing (GA
drawing) for each of the boards.
