The airplane belongs to the 747 family of airplanes and has these major features: - Two-crew flight deck - Crew rest area (optional) - Advanced avionics High performance engines ' Advanced APU Wing tip extensions and winglets 1 Advanced aluminum alloy wings - Horizontal stabilizer fuel tank (optional) Flexible interior configuration Carbon brakes 747 23.00.701.001 DEC 05/90 PAGE 002 i 3a 747-400 AIRPLANE 747 23.00.201.001 SUN 25/93 PAGE 003 SQEING F387 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL DESIGN WEIGHTS Design weights are the maximum structural weight limitations established by testing and government. certification. The certified operational weights may be lower and are determined by the airline and its regulatory agency. Maximum taxi weight (MTW) is the maximum weight limitation for ground A maneuvering. Maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) is the maximum weight limitation for takeoff. It is the MTW less the fuel burned for start, taxi, engine run-up and hold. Maximum landing weight (MLW) is the maximum weight limitation for landing. Maximum zero fuel weight (MZFW) is the maximum weight limitation for payload. It is the maximum weight of the airplane allowed with zero usable fuel on board. 747 23.00.702.001 DEC 05/90 PAGE 004 r2r0s/90 eu DESIGN WEIG MAXIMUM TAXI WEIGHT (MTW) 873,000 POUNDS MAXIMUM TAKEOFF WEIGHT (MTOW) 870,000 POUNDS MAXIMUM LANDING WEIGHT (MLW) 630,000 POUNDS MAXIMUM ZERO FUEL WEIGHT (MZFW) 535,000 POUNDS DESIGN WEIGHTS 747 DEC 07/90 395,986 KILOGRAMS 394,625 KILOGRAMS 285,763 KILOGRAMS 242,672 KILOGRAMS 23.00.202.001 PAGE 005 BOEING F747 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL PRINCIPAL DIMENSIONS The principal dimensions of the 747-400 airplane are shown with a front and side view. 747 23.00.703.001 DEC 05/90 PAGE 006 {it MINIMUM B= MAXIMUM [> sie Cc { rc | 25's" GROUND LINE 401" 225'2" 231'10" PRINCIPAL DIMENSIONS i TAT 23.00.203.001 DEC 07/90 PAGE 007 BORING F787 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL PLAN VIEW DIMENSIONS The principal dimensions of the 747-400 airplane are shown with a plan view. 747 23.00.704.001 DEC 05/90 PAGE 008 1205/90 213" 747 DEC 07/90 6986" PLAN VIEW DIMENSIONS 23.00.204.001 PAGE 009 BOEING 787 MAINTENANCE TRAINING MANUAL GENERAL ARRANGEMENT The fuselage has five (manufacturing) sections: section 41, section 42, section 44, section 46 and section 48. Personnel must avoid the engine inlet, and also the exhaust nozzle where hot, high-velocity exhaust gases are discharged. The velocity of the fan discharge air, particularly at high thrust settings, is sufficient to cause serious injury. High temperatures exist several hundred feet from the exhaust nozzle depending on wind conditions. WARNING: IF SURFACE WIND IS REPORTED GREATER THAN 25 KNOTS, INCREASE DISTANCE OF INLET BOUNDARY BY 20%, 747 23.00.707.001 MAR 11/91 PAGE 014 E . It is aft of the nose wheel well. Access is through one of two access hatches (main deck floor and lower fuselage), or through doors in the forward cargo compartment. The three sections of the MEC are: - Aft - Forward-left ~ Forward-right The aft section is between stations 400 and 480, and contains most of the equipment. ‘The forward-left section is forward of station 400 and to the left of the nose wheel well, The forward-right section is forward of station 400 and to the right of the nose wheel well. Access to the forward sections is through openings in the station 400 bulkhead. 747 DEC 05/90 Aft Section The aft section of the MEC contains the left equipment rack (E1} and the right equipment rack (E2) which have channels for forced air cooling of the electronic equipment. This damage is usually caused by discharge levels too low to be noticed. Equipment and circuit cards that have devices sensitive to electrostatic discharge are labeled ESDS {electrostatic discharge sensitive). Use special handling procedures when replacing ESDS equipment and circuit cards. Metal-encased LRUs are identified as electrostatic sensitive by a label on the box. These LRUs interface with airplane wiring through connector pins which provide a direct path to the internal devices. Do not touch these pins during removal or replacement of this equipment. After removal of electrostatic sensitive equipment, cover the connector pins with a protective cover for transport. The protective cover should be a conductive type to dissipate static charges. If conductive covers are not available, anti-static covers which have recently 747 23.00.734.001 DEC 07/90 PAGE 074 se06090 co CAUTION BLACK CONDUCTIVE | f£* TEE Pavers WHITE ANTI-STATIC COVERS | ececrwostatic | (MUST COAT WITH CONDUCTIVE SPRAY) | hea “sasinve GRAY CONDUCTIVE ESDS DUST COVERS FOR ELECTRICAL/ ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT ESDS EQUIPMENT HANDLING 747 23.00.234.001 DEC 07/90 PAGE 075 SOEING F787 MAINTENANCE TRAINING HANUAL ESDS CIRCUIT CARD HANDLING Line replaceable circuit cards in card files or in metal-encased boxes are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. Labels on these cards identify them as electrostatic sensitive. An approved wrist strap must be worn and connected to an ESDS ground point in the airplane before you may touch these cards. Conductive wrist straps and jacks are in the MEC. | This provides a path to remove electrostatic charge from line personnel. When not in its location, put the circuit card in a conductive bag. Fold the top of the conductive bag over to keep electrostatic energy from the circuit card. Put this bag in a foam envelope for further protection. In its protective package the circuit card may be safely handled without a wrist strap. 747 23.00.735.001 DEC 07/90 PAGE 076 12/06/90 FOAM ENVELOPE CONDUCTIVE BAG 747 DEC 07/90 TO ESDS GROUND CIRCUIT CARD A ANTI-STATIC FILM ESDS CIRCUIT CARD HANDLING ~ ATTENTION OBSERVE PRECAUTIONS FOR HANDLING ELECTROSTATIC SENSITIVE ESD WRIST STRAP DEVICES LING 23.00.235.001 PAGE 077
