What has been of concern, of late, is the problem of environmental pollution due to the increase in industrial and other material waste and deforestation that causes ecological imbalance. Institutions/hospitals providing health care facilities are adding up to the environmental Vice President pollution, in the form of unscientific disposal of bio-medical waste. KINARE A Cardiac Pathologist of World Repute Dr. Suman G. Kinare, retired Professor and Head, Department of Pathology, Seth G. S. Medical College, Mumbai, passed away at Pune. She was an alumni of Seth G. S. Medical College. After completing her M.D. in Pathology, she went to the University of Ilinois and Yale University on Rockfeller fellowship and trained in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary pathology. On her return to India, she established a section of Cardiovascular pathology at the Seth G. S. Medical College, Mumbai the first of it kind in the country. ‘A great proponent of autopsy as a tool in studying and understanding diseases, she personally conducted and supervised thousands of autopsies. Along with her mentor, late Dr. P. K. Sen, renowned cardiac surgeon, she made an indepth study of Non specific aorio arteritis - also known as Sen-Kinare syndrome. This study resulted in a monograph in 1972 and a revised version in 1998. ‘A teacher par excellence, her in depth knowledge of congenital and acquired heart disease and pulmonary disorders, helped train innumerable cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, chest physicians and pathologists. As head of pathology department, she played @ major role-in- establishing the plasma. fractionation unit at K-E.M. Hospital the largest in Asia. Sincere, simple and unassuming, Dr. Kinare was the first woman President of JAPM in the years 1986. She was also deeply Interested in music and literature - both Marathi & English. She leaves behind hordes of admirers and students. GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS IN THE 50TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF IAPM 1) Delegates are requested to stick to the delineated format. Abstracts not conforming to the standards may not be accepted. 2) Indicate the choice of presentation (oral or poster) and the system or speciality preferred for presentation clearly. 3) Presenting author has to be a member of IAPM. 4) Instructions for typing. ‘+ Type on the original form in English only. Bold and clear photocopy of the original form may also be used. Abstract must fit within the designated space +n case of computer typed abstract, adjust margins properly. Use inkjet or laser or other high quality printer. Avoid dot matrix printing +Please type titles in bold or capitals and underline presenting author's name. +Font size should be 12 to 14 5) Organize the abstract. Abstract for papers should be formulated under the following headings- a) Objectives, b) Material and methods, ) Results, d) Conclusions Poster abstract format should also be on the same lines. For case reports split into three subheadings as Background, Case summary and Inference of Conclusion. 6) Title should not have more than 40 characters. 7) Abstract should not exceed more than 200 words. 8) Avoid use of vague terms and abbreviations either intitle or abstract text 9) Fax / E-mail of the abstract will not be accepted. 10) Each delegate will be allowed to present one paper only (Oral or Poster) 41).
