crucial role in regional integration of the 'Greater South Asia', which includes China,
Iran,Afghanistan, and stretches all the way to Myanmar. In order to make the CPEC operational,
theChinese government has set up a special economic zone in the historical city of Kashgar, the
bordercitybetweenChinaandPakistan.
ChallengesPakistancanfaceinfuture:
Inmyopinion,asthemanyopportunitiesthatCPECpotentiallyaffords,clearlytherearechallengestoowhichPakista
ncanfaceinfuture followings:
1. For CPEC to succeed in the first place Pakistan’s political and social governance is vital. Almost
allof Pakistan’s political parties are in support of CPEC. But, with the largenumber of
foreigninvestments expected, there must be the fair and efficient allocation of development
2. Security will remain a challenge. For now, the Pakistani government and military have
arrangedmore than 10,000 security forces to protect the people and projects of CPEC while a long-

With the concern that an empowered Pakistan will threaten India, India may
