Embedded Clauses- They do not make sense as stand-alone sentences,


unlike main clauses.

For example: The giraffe, who was the tallest in the zoo, towered over the
other animals.

The embedded clause in this sentence is ‘who is the tallest in the zoo’. This
does not make sense on its own, as it is dependent on the main clause.

However, if this embedded clause was to be removed, the sentence would


still make sense. For example:The giraffe towered over the other animals.
