VISTA GRID

-Identify any numbers or letters that are unknown, are written backwards, or are written in an improper stroke sequence.

-Do this by making sure the child cannot see any examples, then ask the child to write them all down in RANDOM order (ex. please
write an uppercase E, now a 2, now a lowercase f, etc) until they have attempted to write down every number and every upper and
lowercase letter. Use the attached letter and number guide to identify difficulties and keep track to ensure you do every letter and
number.

-Using the numbers and letters you identify as needing practice, make several Vista Grid’s with just two letters or numbers per grid.
Your child can write them in random order on the grid, making sure to practice the proper stroke sequence for the formation of each
letter or number.

-Next ask your child to ‘read’ the grid left to right, touching each letter with alternating hands, and saying the letter names and/or
sounds as you touch. Add the metronome to enhance automaticity. This can be done with bingo dabbers etc for variety.
-For b, d, p, and q the child could say the name of the letter and the direction the bump is facing - ‘b right’, ‘d left’

For Example: b and d

b b d b d d b d
d d b d b b b d
b d d b b d b b
d b d b d b d b
