CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND THE SCOPE

Background of the study

Business Resilience is a vital business strategy that helps business owners survive an

unexpected events and challenges. It is the ability of an organization to adapt, recover, and

maintain or quickly return to its normal operations after facing a disruptive event or change in

its operating environment. Business resilience begins with an understanding that business

processes and workflows must be preserved for organizations to survive unexpected events.

Among the important challenges of business resilience planning is the human element.

People must be prepared and educated on how to respond to a chaotic situation. A business

resilience plan is sometimes referred to as a business continuity plan (BCP). Resilience is an

outcome of various approaches to readiness, including crisis management, operations

management and strategic marketing management.

It is no longer sufficient to simply recover business operations and mission-critical

applications after a natural disaster or other event. Organizations must be ready to adapt as

circumstances change. As the COVID-19 crisis demonstrated, businesses had to quickly

adjust to changing work environments that included reducing man power to operate daily

business, product delivery and color coding. Business resiliency is not just about surviving

disruptions but also thriving in the face of challenges. It involves proactive planning and a

holistic approach that encompasses people, processes, technology, and resources.

Companies that prioritize business resiliency are better prepared to weather unexpected

crises and remain competitive in a constantly evolving business environment.
