Broad Guidelines for the SFRLO Assignment:

Generic Title: Strategic Flexibility & Resource Leverage Audit for Organization-Y
Choice of Organization is the first step here.
1. Approximate (minimum) word limit is 2000 for the main document. However, references and
appendix or appendices can be of any length. Web links should be provided with complete
details. Merely citing www.google.com or www.wikipedia.org or any such generic web links
is prohibited.
2. For the organization chosen, all major strategic flexibility practices that have already occurred
should be explained briefly and with all clarity. In light of these insights, students should
endeavour to provide insights and make recommendations for a better future of the
organization. All essential details are to be furnished without fail.
3. The first half of the report is descriptive while the second half of the report is prescriptive in
nature.
4. The document should be submitted in PDF and the file should be free of any malwares or
viruses. The document should be submitted over Moodle (link to be created by PGP Staff and
shared with you in due course of time). It should not be sent to my office email ID. This is just
to avert the email clutter to the office email ID of mine.
5. Each individual has to submit a separate assignment. The assignment carries 20 marks.
6. Deadline for the submission of the assignment: 20th November, 2023

Broad Guidelines for the SFRLO Project:

Generic Title: X-Flexibility (& Resource Leverage) and its Impact on Business
Choice of a Thematic Topic of Flexibility or / and a Resource is the first step here. At least 10 real-
time corporate / business examples across diverse industries should be used to illustrate the theme
chosen. It would be great if these 10 examples form a mix of success and failure stories on this front.

For example, you may choose financial flexibility or investment flexibility or budgeting flexibility or
strategic capital mobilization or some other topic if your major is in finance. It could be IT flexibility
or interoperability or digital flexibility or Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) or some such topic of
flexibility in terms of Smart Devices or Internet of Things or Big Data or Cognitive Computing or
Artificial Intelligence or Bitcoin kind of cryptocurrencies or some such topic if your major is in
Information Technology. One can find many more topics against (and even beyond) the eight areas
of management in our institute’s web portal (e.g., Economics, Marketing, Operations etc)

During my first session itself, I have elaborated on a minimum of three topics with illustrations against
each functional flexibility. I will be touching upon many such in the rest of the classes too.

2. For the chosen topic / theme of strategic flexibility (and resource leverage), based on the
industrial practices till date, one can prepare a diagnostic report as first half of the project
report. In light of this, students should strive to provide recommendations for a better or
greater future of firms aspiring to gain from these practices in the second half of the SFRLO
project report. This should be done with due substantiation and justification.
3. The first half of the report is inspirational (related success and failure stories till date) while
the second half of the report is operational (prescriptive with managerial and organizational
takeaways) in nature.
4. The document should be submitted in PDF and the file should be free of any malwares or

Broad Guidelines for the CXO Write-Up:

Generic Title: CXO-Bullseyes & Bloopers
Choice of a CXO designation is the first step here. Typical examples include Chief Technology Officer,
Chief Innovation Officer, Chief Knowledge Officer, Chief Learning Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief
Financial Officer, Chief Digital Officer, Chief Data Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Design
Officer, Chief Growth Officer etc. Choose a title that resonates with your USPs and career aspirations.
1. Approximate (minimum) word limit is 1000 for the main document. However, references and
appendix or appendices can be of any length. Web links should be provided with complete
details. Merely citing www.google.com or www.wikipedia.org or any such generic web links
is prohibited.
2. For the CXO title chosen, identify ten strikingly successful (sizzler) CXOs with details and ten
fizzler CXOs with details of blunders committed by them.
3. This write-up could serve the purpose of crisp and proactive marketing of your career
ambitions to your recruiters, generally at the beginning of the interview / interaction.
4. Later, in the second half of the interview or at its fag end, try to get an opportunity to
showcase your stature as a prospective CXO. Use my prescription of ‘Tempting Abstract’
followed by ‘Prompting PPT’ and eventually ‘Full-blown elaboration of your SFRLO assignment
and SFRLO project’ duly combined towards carving an unconventional career in terms of a
CXO designation or at least being a member in the existing CXO team. This is in line with “Hill
or Hair Follicle Strategy” and “Hill First and Carriage Next Strategy” which are warranted in
these days of opportunism.
5. The document should be submitted in PDF and the file should be free of any malwares or
viruses. The document should be submitted over Moodle (link to be created by PGP Staff and
shared with you in due course of time). It should not be sent to my office email ID. This is just
to avert the email clutter to the office email ID of mine.
6. Each individual has to submit a separate CXO Write Up. This carries 10 marks.
7. Deadline for the submission of the project: 20th November, 2023.
