Social activities

As a sporting nation Ireland offers a wide range of sports activities ranging

from Gaelic football and hurling to horse racing. On the weekends irish pubs
tend to be packed with people from all walks of life, socializing over a cup of
tea or a pint of guinness beer. The Irish also tend to organize casual gatherings
of musicians who have come together to play traditional irish music in pubs.
These gatherings were given the name “Trad sessions”.

Gender roles

The stereotypic dynamic of men working and going to war while women raised
kids persisted through the 18th century. The first major wave of women’s
activism hit in the 70s, after which the first female president was elected in
1990. Overall, the gender parity in Ireland is 80%, which places it in 9th place
in the global gender equality chart.
