When carrying out any work on electrical components, including in particular on circuit
boards and boards, ensure you wear the required ESD protective clothing (ESD protective
gloves, ESD protective shoes, ESD-suitable clothing, ESD earthing armband) in order to
prevent electrostatic discharge.
• Do not perform any activity that may put other people in danger or that can make the
device a source of danger!
• Put the removed housing and other machine parts in a safe place while working. Always
store the tools or disassembled parts in such a way that no one can stumble and fall over
them!
Keep the area around the machine clean and tidy during and after maintenance work!
• Do not let screws, nuts or other parts fall into the ceiling supply unit! Immediately remove
any parts that have fallen in! Parts that are not removed can damage other components
or cables when adjusting the ceiling supply unit.
ATTENTION, the ceiling supply unit should not be released for use by the customer if any
parts have fallen into the ceiling supply unit and have not been removed.
• Danger of overheating! Keep the area around the power supply ventilation openings
clear! When installing the power supply components in control boxes, check for sufficient
ventilation (ventilation openings in control box)!
• After performing the work, reattach all protective equipment, such as the following:
- Covers
- Cable connectors, cable ties
- Shielding
- Ground and equipotential connections
- Earth connections
to the system or renew them!.
Check connection of equipotential bonding conductor/grounding cable in accordance
with the applicable standards!
• Only install devices for which the ceiling supply unit has been prepared (e. g., modular
panel assembly).
• After performing work, reattach protective devices and replace them if necessary. This
includes, for example, covers, cable ties, cable mounts, cable shields, ground and
potential conductor connections, and power connections. Check connection of
equipotential bonding conductor/grounding cable in accordance with the applicable
standards.

Service Manual TruPort 5000/7000 Ceiling Supply Units – 1 626 817 – 11/2016 17
Connections and cables

2.4 Connections and cables

• The most recently enacted safety regulations as set forth in IEC 60601-1-1 must be
complied with for the installation of an electrical medical system.
Only devices complying with the requirements of IEC 60601-1 may be connected to the
support arm sockets!
• Improperly installed signal cables / electrical cables could be conductive and lead to
serious injuries or death. Signal cables (network, audio, video, etc.) have to be electrically
isolated on the device and facility connection side from the ceiling supply unit.
• Risk of explosion! Keep oxygen and gas outlets free from substances containing oil,
grease and lubricants! Do not use cleaning agents containing oil, grease or lubricant for
cleaning purposes!
• The controllable vertical lift brake only works after connection to the compressed air
supply!
The connection points for the equipotential bonding conductors on the ceiling supply unit
comply with IEC 60601-1 (VDE 0750-1).
Devices with connecting bolts for equipotential bonding must be connected to the
equipotential bonding connecting bolt on the support arm side using green-yellow cable!
• Hazard to the patient! Please observe the radius/range of the ceiling pendant or device
for the determination of hose and cable connections between connecting elements
(sockets for alternating current, low current, signals, medical gases/media, etc.) and
devices deposited/suspended/connected to the ceiling supply unit. The length of the
cables/hoses must on the one hand be sufficient to not accidentally disconnect the
connections and may on the other hand not be too long, so that the hygienic conditions
are adhered to!
When installing cables in empty cable channels, the empty channels must not be
damaged. When removing the factory-fitted “installed strain relief” to relieve the
installation, these elements must be re-installed afterwards, as otherwise stiffness of the
ceiling pendant may result, causing damages to the cables and hoses!
• The cables and hoses must be able to be cleaned easily!
• After repairs, check the electrical connections against the circuit diagram (See chapter 25,
page 181) before performing a functional test.
• Restore cables to their original installation positions after repairs and check for the risk of
shearing and crushing!
Recheck the position of the lines following any repositioning! Only pass the cables through
the ceiling supply unit in the order described in this document.
• No additional data and low-current cables may be installed outside the cable channels
or the housing.

WARNING
Risk of patient death due to overload of the gas supply!
The overload of the gas supply causes a reduced supply to the patient.
A maximum of 2 points of use may be installed per gas supply circuit.

CAUTION
Risk of injury to patients and users due to modules installed improperly!
Improperly installed modules can cause injury due to sharp module edges, leaking media, or
conductive parts.
The installation/removal of modular panels may performed only by service technicians from
TRUMPF Medizin Systeme GmbH + Co. KG or by personnel authorised, trained, and
certified by Trumpf Medical.

CAUTION
Risk of injury to patients and users due to gas escaping when retrofitting gas
modules!
In the case of gas modules installed subsequently, it may be necessary to replace the gas
lines at a time other than the regular service interval. The production date determines this.
The gas module production month is listed on the edge of the side panel. To read it, lift the
cover profile of the FPC rails somewhat.

NOTE
Observe the assembly/dismantling order!
The individual modular panels overlap slightly. When dismantling, start with the uppermost or
lowest modular panel. Successively remove the modular panels inwards from the top or
bottom. Assemble in reverse order from the inside to the top or bottom.

The support-arm head is completely encased in modular panels. The following are the
modular panels with different dimensions for mounting on the front or the side of the head:
- blanking modules, unconfigured
- gas modules
- manometer modules
- combined gas/manometer modules
- equipotential bonding modules
- CEE modules
- low-power modules
- operating modules
- electrical modules
Dismantling is done analogously using the module release tool for the various modular panels.
Panels on the front or side of the head are removed with different module release tools.
The rear connections of a panel module depend on the configuration of that module.

Within the action range (sum of the swivelling ranges), the main support arm can be moved
and locked into any position in the room. Securing and locking the controlled room position
is done via the friction or electro-pneumatic brakes in the joints of the support-arm component/
head bearing.
Friction brakes

1
2

3
Figure 30 Friction brakes
[1] Adjusting nut [3] Friction element
[2] Spring washers
Friction brakes are located in all three possible joints on the main support arm as standard.
The braking action uses as little force as possible, so that the main support arm can be moved
into the desired position. Use of friction brakes does not result in movement lockouts.
The braking action arises from static friction:
- The brake or frictional force is transferred via the friction element [3] to an axial friction
surface on the swivel joint.
- The frictional force is generated by the spring washers [2].
- Holding torque is adjusted using the adjusting nut [1].

Figure 31 Electro-pneumatic brake
[1] Brake lever [5] Pressure pins
[2] Brake diaphragm [6] Spring washers
[3] Adjusting nut [7] Friction element
[4] Levelling element
Electro-pneumatic brakes consist of a friction brake with an attached brake lever. Electro-
pneumatic brakes exert a much higher braking force than friction brakes, and the
configuration of the inner spring assembly is different. Pulling on the brake lever [1]
pneumatically releases the friction brake. Compressed air [P] is therefore only necessary
for brake release.
- A brake diaphragm [2] is embedded in the brake lever [1], which transfers compressed air
for the lifting force. This lifting force overcomes the force of the pre-stressed spring
washers [6] and pulls the pressure pins [5] slightly away from the friction surface. For this,
the brake lever [1] is positioned off-centre on the friction brake.
- The eccentricity is compensated by the levelling element [4]. The movement of the brake
lever [1] is transferred onto the friction element [7] via the pressure pins [5] using the
adjusting nut [3].
The electro-pneumatic brake is controlled via the control keys. In emergency situations, the
braking force of the electro-pneumatic brake can be overcome by increased force. This can
lead to increased wear of the brake.
It is possible to retrofit horizontal swivelling main support arms with electro-pneumatically
controlled brakes on all joints. The lower joint on height-adjustable support-arm components
cannot be retrofitted. Retrofitting may only be performed by service technicians from
TRUMPF Medizin Systeme GmbH + Co. KG or by personnel authorised, trained and
certified by Trumpf Medical!

Repairs to the power supply cables

14 Repairs to the power supply cables

WARNING
Danger of death due to gas leaks!
Gas leaks can occur when internal gas supply lines become damaged.
Carefully mount/remove gas and compressed air supply lines to/from the ceiling supply unit
without using any great force.
For several gas circuits, only gas connections belonging to a respective gas circuit may be
connected.
Do not shorten pre-assembled gas hoses!

CAUTION
Risk of material damage!
Do not let screws, nuts or other parts fall into the ceiling supply unit! Immediately remove any
parts that have fallen in! Parts that are not removed can damage other components or cables
when adjusting the ceiling supply unit.
The ceiling supply unit must not be released for customer use if any parts have fallen into the
ceiling supply unit and have not been removed.
Always keep tools or disassembled parts in a safe place. Make sure they are out of the way
so that no one can stumble and fall over them.
All supply lines for medical gases, compressed air and suction, as well as the appropriate
couplings, valves and connections in the ceiling supply unit are pre-installed according to
country-specific/customer-specific requirements.
ATTENTION, when repairing gas/compressed air systems, pay attention to the regulations
in force for compressed gas lines in the respective country!
The site cabling for medical gases, compressed air and suction are lead through the middle
holes of the interface plate and are connected to the appropriate cabling with a plug
connector or screw coupling.
The coupling components and gas supply lines are encoded twice and cannot be mixed up:
• geometrically, through various diameters and lengths,
• through embossed abbreviation of the gas type (e. g., O2, N2, Va, etc.) and the number
of the appropriate gas circuit.
The coupling types are classified as
• Standard feed lines
The plug connector consists of a male and a female connector. The connection is secured
by a support bracket.
• NIST/DISS feed
The NIST/DISS connection is established using a screw with securing nuts. The gas supply
lines laid on-site are assembled with female connectors with threaded shafts. Gas supply
lines, which lead from the support-arm head to the interface plate, are equipped with the
appropriate male connectors with securing nuts.

Maintenance and repair

22 Maintenance and repair

WARNING
Risk of death due to touching conductive parts!
Conductive parts in the ceiling supply unit are accessible during maintenance work, and there
is a risk of electric shock.
De-energise the ceiling supply unit before all maintenance work, and secure it against
unintended switch-on.
Maintenance work may be performed only by service technicians from TRUMPF Medizin
Systeme GmbH + Co. KG or by personnel authorised, trained, and certified by
Trumpf Medical.

The maintenance intervals for the ceiling supply unit are as follows:
- Annual inspection by user/operator
(paint damage, surface coating damage, plastic parts cracking, loose parts)
- Initial maintenance after 5 years, thereafter every 2.5 years by service technicians from
Trumpf Medical or authorised, trained, and certified partners (functional test, electrical
safety check)
Please contact the Technical Customer Service at TRUMPF Medizin Systeme GmbH +
Co. KG or an authorised service partner for maintenance or servicing work.
All maintenance work is to be performed using the maintenance log, taking the list of
components subject to wear (See chapter 22.2, page 176) and the lubrication chart (See
chapter 22.3, page 178) into account! The maintenance log can be downloaded from our
Trumpf Medical online information system. For password access, please contact the
Trumpf Medical Service Centre. After completing the maintenance work, fax (fax no.
+49 3671 586-41175) or e-mail (Service.wwo@trumpfmedical.com) a copy of the
completed maintenance record to the Technical Customer Service department at
Trumpf Medical.

List of parts subject to wear

22.2 List of parts subject to wear

CAUTION
Risk of injury to patients and users due to escaping gas!
The use of obsolete gas hoses results in increased wear and hose breaks.
All gas hoses must be replaced after 10 years at the latest. In the case of gas modules
installed subsequently, it may be necessary to replace the gas hoses at a different time. The
production date determines this.
The gas module production month is listed on the edge of the side panel. To read it, lift the
cover profile of the FPC rails somewhat.
Do not install obsolete hoses. Check the production date prior to installing gas hoses. Gas
hoses may be stored a maximum 36 months.
The replacement of parts subject to wear may be performed only by service technicians from
TRUMPF Medizin Systeme GmbH + Co. KG or by personnel authorised, trained, and
certified by Trumpf Medical.

ATTENTION, pay close attention to assemblies requiring serial numbers, see chapter 18,
page 164.
All high-wear parts must be checked as part of regular maintenance work and replaced when
necessary. For parts subject to wear that are identified as such, replacement of the parts is
absolutely mandatory.
With proper use, care and maintenance of the ceiling supply unit, the following parts are
declared to be high-wear parts.
