Compensation refers to the remuneration that an employee receives in


return for his/her services to the organization. Compensation includes
everything an employee receives in return for his work such as wages,
salaries, allowances, bonuses, benefits and services.

Benefits cover indirect pay. This can be health insurance, stock options,
or any myriad of things offered to employees. All of these things are critical
in any job offer.

Implementing a Total Compensation Package.

1. Create or update job descriptions for each position, based on


Job Analysis.
2. Determine the appropriate amount of compensation for each
grade/level. Factor in overtime.
3. Consider Industry Standards/Benchmarking.
4. Identify the allowances, benefits, and incentives that you will
provide.
5. Detail your decisions in a document (Compensation Policy)

Payroll Management/Administration can be said to be a subset of


Compensation Management wherein the Payroll Specialist / Manager is involved
in ensuring timely pay, with accurate calculations, time/leave management, co-
ordinate bank transfer with finance department and so on..
